I've been gone for a couple of weeks. I just noticed this challenge. Is anyone else confused about the challenge title, details, etc.? Maybe I'm alone. I have no idea who Steve Davidson is. Should I?? Any ways, if there are other threads that explain this or if someone could clarify things, that would be great! Thanks.

I guess I'm still confused though about the point of the challenge itself. We're just supposed to take a picture of some place and then paste his face on the shot??

He doesn't need to be in it. Think of it as where could he be. So pretty much whatever you want.

Yep - while I'm familiar with the events surrounding Steve's disappearance and fortuitous re-emergence, I'm still not sure about this challenge. If I just take a photo of somewhere where it seems steve could have gone does that meet the challenge? Or do I somehow need to incorporate a picture of steve or something into the challenge?

Cheers

free study, justify later. : D

Since Steve is a nature photographer, I think it should be a photo showing somewhere a nature photog would be. A cityscape or studio will probably not get top votes from me.

It doesn't really matter what I do with this challenge. There will be a group of "insiders" and "regulars" who have decided on a special set of secret rules, not revealed to the commoners. These people will speak loudly in the comments about how my image DNMC, although to the outsiders, no one knew of these extra rules. It's very frustrating.

I had a really "stupid, stupid" contest entry for that competition... and after viewing all the entries, I discovered it was one of the most real life dangerous (stupid, stupid) scenes. But, I rec'd a lot of DNMC comments. I suppose those folks favor the staged "stupid, stupid". Go figure!

For the record, I just want to say there is no rule or requirement to "paste" Steve Davidson's face into the image. At least, no rule about which I am aware.

I have no idea why everyone is so suspicious of a challenge so very clearly open to whatever interpretation you choose to bestow upon it. It's supposed to be fun, lighthearted, and no, it doesn't have to be a nature shot, and no Steve's face doesn't have to be in it. You can do pretty much whatever you like and still meet the challenge. The only real rules are the ones relating to editing. And even though competition is the nature of the site, I really think everyone needs to take a step back from the ribbon hunt here. Just go have fun with it and welcome Steve back home!

Yeah, DPC tends to dismiss photojournalism type shots as snapshots and definitely values staging over lucky finds. I heartily disagree with this mentality but not much to be done about it.

I see there were "special rules", not included in the general contest announcement to all the members. I also see that I needed to read all the forum threads to find out the exact nature of the rules. I see that it is still unclear what the rules are, or what special allowances are approved, or not.

I see!

That's a good way to keep the riff-raff out of the competition.

That's what I'm talking about!

stdavidson wanted me to let the DPC community know that he will be unavailable for voting for a few days as he is currently moving from Arizona to Portland, OR, but that he will vote on all the photos as the challenge requires.

He is currently on his way to Oregon now to live with me, his oldest son for awhile.

....maybe my DPC submissions will start scoring higher with all his guidance =-)

Steve Davidson?... He's that guy known throughout all of DPChallenge for his high intellect, incredible personality, quick wit and his uncommonly good looks! ;)

Also, he will be henceforth be known as... "The Lost Photographer" ( which sounds a lot more exotic than "that missing photographer guy")

Why hasn't anybody done something with that mug shot? Think James Brown, Nick Nolte ... :P

I had the weirdest experience at the airport on Wednesday. I saw a man who looked EXACTLY like that photo of Steve, same height even. I was about 10 feet away and I must have been staring because he turned his head a bit to look at me and made eye contact for just a couple seconds. Yet in that moment it felt like he was seeing right into my mind and I couldn't look away, then he gave a slow, small smile and turned away. It gave me a very strange feeling....

Steve, you sure you didn't get lost on your way to Oregon and end up in Victoria??? :)

p.s. And all I could think was...... "DAMMIT! That was LAST week!!"
