I'm not sure what I want to do, but I want to do something lol..
I'm thinking about these 3 options, but I can't make up my mind. Perhaps some of you can help me..

1. A new Canon 580EX Speedlite, I just found an old Flash from Praktica that belongs to my dad, it works fine but I don't know the difference between them.. any thoughts?

2. A new lens:
Sigma 15mm F2.8 EX DG. Fisheye Canon or,
Canon EF-S 10-22mm F3.5-4.5 USM
(I want to focus more on experimental/creative portraits,
allready have a 50mm 1.8 & 18-55)
Maybe someone else got a different option, I would love to hear it!!

3. A small studioflash setup, for face, or entire body.(got the space)

I know these things are complete different from eachother, and I don't have the option to choose all three. So if anyone has a tip or something that could help me, i would love to hear about it..

Thanks in advance,
Sander

some thoughts:

Canon EF-S 10-22mm F3.5-4.5 USM €689,- //www.redcoon.nl/index.php/cmd/shop/a/ProductDetail/pid/R100567/cid/10011/refId/kelkoo/

Falcon Eyes Studio Flitsset DE-150B €299,- //www.fotosg.nl/product_info.php?cPath=24_127&products_id=1161

add €105,- for a striplight //www.fotosg.nl/product_info.php?cPath=24_104&products_id=4412

hmm.. too much, right?

go for the Canon 10-22mm. I know you're gonna use it right, PORTRAITS! (hihi)

If you are into portraits, the Canon 85mm f/1.8 is an amazing lens on a 1.6 camera. Your 75-300 covers that same range, but the sharpness and wonderful smooth bokeh of the 1.8 will blow you away. I looked at some of the portraiture in your portfolio and this lens would be a great add.

Nusbaum...
Why the Canon 85mm f/1.8 rather than the EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro also by Canon? Im just curious

To be honest, both of those lenses is getting a bit on the long side. It really depends on the setting of course, but with the 85mm, I felt that I had to back up a fair bit too much. It's still a bit of a problem with kids.

I will probably get the 16-50 f/2.8 by Tokina for the wide range myself... when it comes out. Sometimes not having the zoom drives me bananas.

so not to be stupid here, eschelar, but - you are suggesting the same focal lenght which lowonenergy already has.
17-55 kit versus the 16-50.
Wouldnt it be wise to reccommend something of wide angle or something of zoom. No point in having duplicate lenses.
Just curious

No stupidity implied. If you read closely, you will notice that I was not actually recommending that he buy or not buy any lens at all.

I was telling him about my experience with the 85mm and explaining why I would be choosing a zoom lens myself. Saying that I will be making a certain decision isn't the same as recommending that he do the same.

I'll let him make his own decisions about how relevant my experience is to his goals.

I've used the 85mm and the 50mm on a 1.6x crop doing candid/portraits of kids and found it fairly limiting, particularly with trying to get a bit of a different look and feel.

Oh and there's a pretty significant difference between the 18-55mm kit lens and a Tokina 16-50mm f/2.8 in their pro line. The focal range may be similar but that's about the end of it.

50mm is pretty decent for portraits, but I suspect that with the types of faces that I shoot, I will be shooting around 40mm on the lens (65mm equivalent).

I'm a bit weird though and I tend to classify my focal lengths for their purposes as they relate to the perspective they yield. I still haven't got that down yet though.

sorry eschelar - I wasnt implying you were being stupid - I meant (I didnt want to sound stupid by asking) - just thought I'd clear that up :)
