Anyone has ideas on these things? Are they worth the bother? Which is better; the one on a hinge that screws onto the lens or the one attached to the elastic band.

Yes, yes I know. A pocket works just as good. Which doesn't explain why I keep losing them.

I had mine on a string, but the string kept ending up in my shots. Took it off and it sits in my bag. Mostly, I forget to put it back on.

It's the first thing I buy after I get a new camera/lens. I have the type on a string. I once borrowed a friend's lens and the first thing I did was drop the lens cap on the ground. I am so used to just popping it off and letting it dangle that I didn't realize he didn't have a keep-cap.

I usually slip one into my singlet. A lens cap on one side, Memory card on the other...they don't get lost and are easy to obtain when needed..

I'm really not sure what you mean by that.

I cheat and order an extra lens cap or two with my lens :-)
For a year or two I used the tangling elastic type, but a) eventually it came loose, and b) shooting straight down was a bother.

I still have a couple of lens with lens caps attached, mostly I cheat and just have lens cap spares.

I got the idea from Bear Music a while back to keep it in a zip lock baggie.

dirt on the lens cap = dirt on the lens so it made sense to me. Then you can put it in your pocket or throw it on the ground or wipe... let's just say it's safe that way :)

Maybe some type of pouch or sleeve that is attached to the strap might work?

Talking about dirt on the lens cap, I was surprised by the amount of dust and lint that got inside of it...

Yeah, that's what I do. I have a friend in California who always wears a shooting vest, and on the vest he has sewed a velcro patch, and he sticks a piece of sticky-back velcro on each lens cap, and just slaps 'em on his vest when he removes 'em. Sort of dorky, but it works...
