On my home page it only shows the red and yellow winning pictures, what happened to the blue? Did it get disqualified for some reason???

Hmph... the Mystery Man winner is becoming more mysterious...!

D&L aren't available right now to re-code the page, although "we" (site council members) took action to DQ the photo now. It was not taken within allowable dates, but this information was only ascertained/verified today.

The link to the now-third photo and appropriately colored ribbons should appear "shortly."

We are switching to a more automated (and consistent and timely) DQ system, and there are many bugs to work out as we start using it.

The photo was disqualified because it was taken before the dates of the challenge. We are testing a new more automated DQ process and there are still a few bugs, which is why the front page has not been updated correctly.

Congrats to the new winners.

Someone in another thread mentioned that it looked like a building at the Burning Man Thingie and that the building was gone before the time period for a legal shot started. My guess is that they were right...

Shame... That was quite an image...

i'd have to agree that its too bad it was dq'd. but good for me at the same time.

I know was fake,Too much PS and BS instead of pure camera handling!

He made a reaction on the photo itself, mentioning the DQ request, but said to expect more work in the future. He said not to be aware of the reason why it should be DQ'ed. Date mistakes have been made before unfortunately.
Here is his site: //www.reuvenlevitt.com/Photography2.jsp

And there wasn't much PS involved. If you browse burning man portfolios (from other people) there are more with the same effect, he gave an explanation on how he captured it. I expect we will here from him soon.

This was a photo of a temple structure on the grounds at the Burning Man event, but not the Burning Man himself.

The only (known) grounds for the DQ is the date the photo was taken.

Wow, what a mess !!
Ok first of all I wanted to apologise, as I was totally unaware of the fact that the exposure had to be within the dates of the challenge itself, and for this I am sorry.

Second I want to thank everybody who voted for my shot, and gave such wonderful and positive feedback.

The photo itself was not modified in any way at all. I did not even crop.

The shot was taken with a canon 10D and a 100-400L lens about 30 seconds after the sun went down.

I will post "Dream of the past" and other shots from burning man on my site in the near future.

Thanks again,
Reuven.

Apology accepted, on behalf of everyone here, I'm sure. I hope you continue to submit - and it remains a wonderful shot, in so many ways.

Redmapper. It happens to the best of them. And in your case, it was an excellent excellent shot. One of the coolest I've seen since i've been on this site.

Please keep submitting, we look forward to seeing what you can produce. You'll always have the satisfaction of knowing you won by vote :).

just exactly how is the date verified - besides someone actually knowing the event at which a photo was taken?

i ask because - as anyone else who owns my camera will verify - it burns up batteries like mad - and i have never been too concerned with
the date - and tend not to set the date - its a waste of battery life in my opinion.

I don't think the date is maintained by the batteries you continually replace.

Verification is by submitting the original image exactly as captured by the camera, with EXIF data intact. If that shows the wrong date, you can be disqualified.

Set the date/time. It should stay while you change batteries.

i dont believe it does
because when i 1st got the thing i did set the date
and the date according to PEX is always january
batteries never last more than a month
more like a week - i take a lot of photos that i mess with that would not qualify for these contests. well consider this a forwarning that
my pics may have the wrong date - but being an honest guy - i wouldnt
submit one intentionally that didnt fit the rules...

man.. we definatly need to put in BOLD that the pic has to be taken during certain dates.. we're DQ'ing way too many pics for this reason...

personally, i kinda block out the left part of the screen when submitting (you know, where the rules are?) cuz usually thats where there are ads on webpages.. plus the background is a different color which makes it look a bit mroe "seperated".. i know the rules of this site, but if i weren't clear on something, it definately wouldn't be there on the left of the submission page that i'd see it. The rules at a glance section should be SMACK in the middle of the page when you submit.

Just wondering... as i am down in NZ i am a day ahead of most of you... there has been times when, for example, it is the 22nd here but the close off date is the 21st... yet i can still upload. would i be breaking the rules if i did this?

At the bottom of the page is Current Server Time:. This is the time that all challenges should adhere to.

I really liked the previous winner... anyone got a copy for me? I didn't get a chance to save it for personal enjoyment.
