It's midnight here in Hong Kong, and I'm laughing out loud alone in the office. With all these 'children' scuttling around, the site needs some virtual parents :). Are there Tamagotchi mums and dads around? Ciao for niaow! I'm switching the computer off :)

Hey sometimes it's fun to revert to childhood...
Besides we were sort of making a (nice soft, wouldn't hurt anyone with it) point about the equal validity of everyone's opinions and the proliferation of POTD threads.
I had fun anyway!

I don't mind people posting their favorites as long as they include some commentary that allows us to learn from them. For example, "This is one of my favorites. I really like the line provide by the edge of the road and how it connects...." Just saying this is cool or it should have received a better score doesn't help. We need to understand why, and the hopefully learn from it.

The recent proliferation of Fav threads were really not serious (although the images we chose are ones we like) - hence not much detail in them... they were just posted to make a point in a way that made us laugh and smile.

Well, I suppose that it did not occur to you that the way which made you laugh and smile could have been somehow offensive for someone else.

Funny enough, it was the point you were tring to demonstrate about criticizing the approach of the so-defined "POTD" threads.

I think there is more than a point that should be clarified here and I am confident that the only one who can actually do it is Time, the only one well-known to be a gentleman.

I explained why in my comments on the picture that I selected.

It would take a lot more than this to offend me, so no need to become a gentleman yet. I'm still learning who is who and how to separate serious comments from jest.

If it's all the same with both of you I'd rather not become a gentleman at all. I'm rather fond of my two round protuberances and have no desire for a dangly appendage either!

:o)

Ok, I guess you don't need to be a gentleman about this!

And now that I have actually taken time to look at your profile, I thinks it a great idea to post your voting scale.

I should make inappropriate posts more often, I may learn more.

You are all wrong - until I win a blue ribbon. Then your judgement will be impeccable taste! ;)

I can't tell if you're teasing me or not... :o)

I do think one should always try and look on the bright side of life... now let me see... that would make such a great song lyric... ;) ;) ;) and I know I'm often guilty of being a little irreverant but I do tend to react that way when confronted with people who take themselves a little too seriously. I just go the other way! But truly, I do expend a great deal of time and effort when voting and commenting and try and be as fair and as consistent as I can...

Wasn't teasing at all...

And you were right about the rest... I should be more careful about posting from the office. Sometimes I miss the general mood of a thread or I let the general mood of the office overflow.

Please don't hesitate to give me an attitude adjustment!

LOL Nah... you sound like you've got it right to me!
I just figure there's a place for both fun and seriousness and I enjoy each in it's season...

Now, if I can just find that liquorice allsort i lost down my cleavage I can go to sleep for the night!

(Ask Mag or Gordon, they were helping me look for it)

I don't know myqyl.. I have recently witnessed Faidoi retiring his thread, then Zeus did the same after apparently showing some resistance.

Two blue ribbons have been DQed recently and the last one is still on the homepage..

And some people is discussing if it is correct or not to address the whole population of the website in a thread (I tought that would happen automatically after somebody's opinion was posted in a thread which is not "Rant"). But, maybe, the very existence of "Rant", as category, shows a kind of culture which is quite difficult for me to understand.

In my relatively short experience on DPC I underlined many times the vulnerability of the site to trolls attack (and there is no better demo of it then to have the Blue Ribbon DQed...).

At this point I can bet that if the site will not show some real defence to survive to those attacks, it won't last very long...

I must say that, following the DQed of the current blue ribbon (second one in the last four open challenges) I am by far less motivated to challenge. I will take a rest for "At Rest", so you can come and make my portrait if you like..

edited in the desperate attempt to improve my English

How does the DQ of a photo that broke the rules the fault of trolls???

If you expand the definition of trolls to include individuals who register and submit fraudulent entries with the hope winning or impacting the overall outcome, the number of recent DQs could be considered evidence of a potential problem. I don't think this is the case for the most recent DQ situation as the photographer did offer an explanation on one of the forums, but it is possible.

I'm sure things could be tightened up a bit on the site, but in the meantime I will continue to post with the hopes of getting meanful comments from the photographers on this site who have already earned my respect. The trolls still cannot impact the quality of your portfolio or the content of your comments.
