"Exclusive in-camera image editing features under the new Retouch menu help ensure consistently satisfying results and greater creative freedom without the use of a computer. D-Lighting automatically brings out detail to enhance results and add creative flair, all while optimizing overall exposure balance. Red-eye correction automatically detects and compensates for the annoying red-eye effect sometimes caused by flash. Trim can be used to produce smaller files for easy sharing or greater efficiency. Image Overlay merges a pair of selected RAW (NEF) files taken with the D80 to create a new composite image. Other options include Monochrome settings (Black-and-white, Sepia, Cyanotype) and Filter Effects (Skylight, Warm filter, Color balance)."

Better get this thing for the next 'straight from the camera' challenge.

Woooooooooo Hooooooooooooo!

My next Ride! :-P

The highlight for me was

"Multiple Exposure creates a single image within the camera from up to 3 consecutive exposures to produce imaginative and even surreal results."

:-D

I like the look of the new VR 70-300 lens. I've got a crappy old Tokina 70-300 that I use a lot for cricket photos and this is going on my wish list to replace it straight away.

I heard a rumor that the D80 was goning to have 4.5 fps but it seems that we are stuck with 3 fps - but all of the other features that were speculated on the web seem to have been confirmed - it takes SD cards

If I am saving it is for the D3h! :-P

ETA: But we will have to see what happens with the price points. Either way Woo Hoo! :-)

Yeah, Ken Rockwell quite adamantly stated that the D80 was going to shoot at 4.5 FPS and meter with AI lenses. Yet another piece of desinformation from Ken.

I am ready to buy one soon as they are available. starting to get a bit giddy now. I blame DPC for showing me the limitations of my D-50 long before I would have learned otherwise. But I also thank DPC for showing me the way to a new toy. you guys rock!!! :-)

Anyone care to speculate on the MSRP for this jewel?
08/08/2006 10:57:48 PM · #12
Don't know why Nikon would put 4.5FPS on the D80... The D200 has 5.5 FPS.

I think I've seen rumors of 899 usd...

I have read in a few places $899 US.

If all the rumors and the info in this thread are true, then what all makes the D200 better than the D80? I'd like to compare ASAP because if there isn't a significant enough difference, then I will put my name on the waiting list immediately for the D80.

To name a few, weather sealings and magnesium alloy body, full AI metering capabilities, higher FPS rate, more physical levers and buttons to change settings, most probably more information displayed in the viewfinder. I'm sure I missed a few.

Just to second Agenkin...

The 3FPS makes sense because if it had 4.5FPS, it would be eating SERIOUSLY into the market for the D200...

There are lots of little things, but FPS is a major aspect of raw performance of a camera.

That's why people would pay that much for the D200..

It's one of the major reasons I paid more money to get the 30D.

I just checked the Nikon USA site the flash add for the announcement seems to have died on day zero it is no longer playing. So I am patiently waiting for the update on the site. I hope they release this puppy to the stores soon because I want a new camera if this one doesn't pan out to be a great camera i will get a d200 But I have to see the d-80 first. ive already told the guy at the camera store where i purchase all my video equipment that i want first dibs on the first d-80 they get he granted my wish but at that time he had no idea when they will have it in stock. perhaps i shall call them tomorrow and find out if they know.

Finally, I can go to bed now!

I am disapointed by the fact that it takes SD cards, only for the fact that if/when I want to upgrade to a D200 (or it's successor) my cards will be useless. Or is it speculated that most/all Nikon's new body's will use SD from now on?

i think they are leaning towards SD for all models. maybe with some luck by the time you update to D-200 they will have changed them over from CF

Can't you buy an adapter to use SD cards in a CF slot?
