what does it mean when your total "Comments Received" number suddenly got reduced by 1? Can comments be retracted? I haven't been able to confirm which one was missing though, so this is just a quick curious question.

I'm not sure if comments hidden by the SC are no longer counted but I suppose that's a possibility.

Yeah, that's probably it. I think it is possible also in a current challenge for the photographer to remove the comment given. I THINK. Why I don't know that for sure is beyond me.

Thanks mk and Heather - just curious, u know :)
Heather, one more thing - you mean it is possible to remove our comments during the voting period? Probably never going to do that, but then I didn't know that before, lol.

If an account is closed by sc or admin, do the comments go away?

Nope - I can still see _insert name here_'s old comments

Interesting bit of trivia, even though _insert name here_'s account is gone, you can still see his full-size (non thumbnail) images if they're on your favorites list, like one of his is on mine.

Yup. Looks like you can. (I tested it out) If you go back to the image after you have commented and voted, and just delete the text, it goes away.

What about if the voter doesn't do their 20%? does that remove the comments as well as the vote?

Challenge photos, comments made, and forum posts remain forever.

No, comments stay even if the 20% voting requirement is not met. There is no specific number of comments required.

I just had my comments received number reduced by one as well. Interesting.

There are a number of comments that were removed following numerous complaints. This should answer the 'where did my comment go' question.

LOL - you're just like me, checking whether new comments were received, aren't you? :) when the admins have the spare time, maybe someday an alert system can be put in place so we can be a little more lazier ;p

Heather, good to know our comments stay even if we didn't made 20% vote. Had wanted to ask but never remembered :$

Heh. Yeah. Since I get depressed watching my mediocre scores become even more mediocre, I turn off scores. I check comments received to see if I have any on the challenge entries. I don't. Which reinforces the whole depressing mediocre score thing... :/

I suspect but cannot confirm at this time that the reign of the Great Job Fairy may be ending, as my count was also just reduced by one, I had no offensive comments to report, and I don't immediately see it on my rec'd page...

Yes mine too...and from the Great Job Fairy also.

Great Job

Yes, it appears that a few people complained about my 'Great job' comments, those few people complaining have compelled the folks here at DPC to remove my comments. So for those who think that the 'Great job' comments are disappearing you are correct. For more information, please read the thread: Stop Motion III Scores Here!

Since you want to discuss it publicly, no one 'compelled' the SC to remove the comments. (only brought it to our attention) We have never allowed cut and pasting comments. Especillay over 1500 of the exact same cut and paste comment.
It is not allowed to alter the stats (intentionally or not) for any reason. This affects any future invitational challenges we may have.
We did not accuse you of having any malicious intent. We simply asked you not to do it. To which you refused to comply. (and personally insulted my intelligence, but we wont get into that)

The comments are being removed, and if you (or anyone else) feels the need to continue making such cut and paste comments, they will be removed as well, and possible penalties applied.

When saying that the ones who complained 'compelled' you to do it, I simply meant that it is what has stirred all of this up, resulting in you pulling my comments. And I have no problem discussing this publically, because I have nothing to hide, I've detailed my point of view on another post, I have made my intentions perfectly out there for public debate. Unlike your hidden rules that you now feel the need to impose, but not post.

I have not, as you like to accuse me of, tried to 'alter any stats'. I have explained that over and over again.

Maybe if leaving TOO many comments is a problem, you might put that fact in your FAQs, of which I'd point out, have nothing to say about cutting and pasting anything. So the fact that you 'never allow it' (cut and paste) is something that you fail to tell anyone, but then expect someone new to the site to know. Put it in your FAQs for me to find when I join the site, and you could alleviate all of this, and not create such a problem for one of your paying members.

I'd like to know how many people you have done this to in the past for cutting and pasting? Surely, if there had been that many, you would have formally addressed the issue before now, and surely there would be a rule about it. You seem to be able to put together rules quite well in here.

And still, I see no problem with me cutting and pasting anything, if I wish to simply let the entrants know that I appreciate their work. For you to even IMPLY that there is another possible explanation as to why I have left these comments is an insult.

And as far as 'insulting YOUR intelligence', isn't that what I said to you in one of our emails, but now you want to turn it around in here to try to discredit me and try to justify your actions towards me? Threatening my membership here with 'penalties'. For using two simple words as a means of leaving comments? Don't you realize that people LIKE to get comments?

If you know there is no mal-intent on my part, why are you removing comments left in good spirit, when your own FAQs state that you ENCOURAGE comments? I told you that I was unaware of any invitational challenges, and I told you the purpose of my comments. If you still want to accuse me of altering stats, go right ahead. But I stand by my actions 100%, because there was no maliciousness or desire to alter anything. There would be no point for me to try to alter anything.

If anyone would like more details on the correspondance between me and this admin, feel free to communicate with me at any time. I'd be happy to share exactly what I told her, and what they have said to me in regards to this matter.

Again, no one accused you of anything malicious. Weather you tried to do it or not does not change the fact that it is happening.

**following comments are from ME and in no way represent the SC**

You didn't leave too many comments...you left ONE comment.

Haha at megatherian, move along, nothing to see here. I'm done...ya'll have seen it before, you know we don't allow it, and you know why. I don't have to keep repeating myself.

Yes, I left one comment, and as I told you in our email communication between each other. That ONE comment was usually a preliminary comment, which I changed 33% of the time afterward to include further detail. That is ONE out of every THREE entries got a more detailed comment. And for the rest that I didn't get back to and change, at least they got SOME kind of a comment from me to express the fact that I feel that anyone who enters these challenges deserves a 'great job' comment. So yes, the same comment, but it is meant for each and every one who enters, so why can't it be the same?

Or are you now trying to tell people what they can and can't say in their comments? Even when you know there is no bad intent? This is just ridiculous.

I'll ask you again, since you seemed to have missed it the first time around:

If you know there is no mal-intent on my part, why are you removing comments left in good spirit, when your own FAQs state that you ENCOURAGE comments, and why is this even an issue?
