I want to watch some dvd's on my computer (and maybe a portable player sometime).

Does someone have any recommendations of a good dvd ripper?

DVD Decryptor is a program I've used for a few years now! I think it's free too! Just follow the links and you should find it!

I'll chime in for DVD Decryptor as well -- hasn't failed with anything I've thrown at it.

The above link is for a search portal -- just send you to more pages with more searches. Download it here.

Just make sure to NOT enable the auto-update as it is no longer supported. The author was sued and choose to stop distribution of his free program and turn everything over instead of fighting a very costly court battle. Probably the wisest choice under the circumstances -- no sense fighting a no-gain battle.

Still the best ripper to date -- even though it is getting a bit aged.

David

/edit: oops, a little late on the direct link. :)

DVD Shrink (3.2) works pretty good. You can also back up your DVD's with it.

DVDShrink recommends DVD Decryptor, can't go wrong with either.

DVDshrink is VERY simple to use, more so than decrypter if you're not too technically minded. Both work well though.

Go to slysoft.com and just buy the suite. Weekly software updates to circumvent, errrrr I mean accomodate, the ever changing dvd encryptions being used. Lifetime updates for free if you buy it. It's around 75 bucks. Rip dvd's, copy dvd's, etc and unlike all the other ones I've tried I can actually use my pc while ripping - it's not a total resource hog.

I use DVD Shrink for most DVDs, but certain newer ones require you to use DVD Decrypter and/or DVD Region/CSS free to rip them.

Then I use AutoGK to compress it to an AVI:

At the risk of completely hijacking the thread... How long are DVD's going to last? Not physically but aren't we due or maybe even overdue for a format change?
