EDIT on 9/15/2007-----> I've known for over a year that this is a scam. This dead thread has been resurrected three times for no further gain other than to point to my gullibility for even asking.

PLEASE LET THIS THREAD REST IN PEACE

I just found two websites that claim to have the Nikon D200 in stock for unbelievable prices.

This one for $755.00

and This one for $729.00

both body only, which is what I am looking for.

I'd love to jump on this, but I keep hearing "If it's too good to be true..." running through my head. I'm going to try calling them tomorrow to verify price, availability and the reason why they are priced way below expectations.

What do you think about these sites?

That depends. Would you actually like to receive the camera?

You can't buy the camera for that price. They won't sell it to you for that :)

Most likly a rip off. i tried to buy my 20d for 500. i called to verify that they recieved my order, & they said it only was the body, with no batteries or anything, & the instructions was in japenese. it was 1000 with the batteries & charger =) yeah. i canceled, & went straight to the store. moral of the story, if it sounds too good to be true, probably is.

The first one doesnt have their address posted. Would you buy something if you dont even know where they are?
The second one is located in Brooklyn. Call them and tell thm you live in Queens and would like to stop by and pick it up, see what they say.

There is definitely something up with the camera stores that say they're in Brooklyn.

This was a quote from someone at www.resellerratings.com

Bait and Switch. Website posts a Nikon D200 - body only - for $969. //www.ccicameracity.com/nikond200.html
What they DON'T tell you is that it is a foreign model with no warranty and costs an additional $699.00 to change to English. (Of course- they tell you when you call - and then are insulting "are you playing games" "what do you think you are getting for that amount" etc. RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL and UNETHICAL!

I just called both companies, and I think that they are one and the same.

When they confirmed that they were located in New York, I asked Photonation.com if I could drop by to buy one. The salesman said that it had to shipped to me and asked for my credit card number. I replied that I would like to hold it in my hand before I buy from them. He told me to go to Best Buy and hold one in my hand for $1800.00 and then buy from them. I countered that I would like to hold the $755.00 one in my hand before I buy it from him. I expressed my doubt that, even for an import, a D200 could be sold for this price, and the salesman told me to go to Best Buy. I asked him if he wouldn't rather tell me something to earn my trust in him and get the sale at which time he hung up on me.

When I called Camera City I had confused the phone numbers and I thought that I had dialed USAphotonation. After listening to a generic message that didn't identify the company and that put me on hold for about 3 minutes, someone picked up the phone and said "Can I help you?" I asked if this was Photonation.com and he said "No". I asked who I had called and there was a moment of silence before he also hung up the phone.

Both of these phone numbers had a similar generic, recorded greeting that had the same background noise.

I can't stand liars and cheats. I sure would like to show up at their 'place of business' in person.

CCI Camera City Inc.
342 Kings Highway
Brooklyn, NY 11223

This is what they have on their website for an address. I'd be surprised to find that people this dishonest are really there, because someone like me might show up if I was in the neighborhood.

The other company doesn't list and address, but they do say that they are in New York.

If you do stop by, give them 'my regards' and let me know what you find. I'd like to go with you.

To gmdi: I just looked through a lot of those ratings on //www.resellerratings.com and I am amazed at how low their ratings are. .64 on a scale of 0-10, yes, that's point 64!

Ya, I got my D200 online. But I never will again. I was lied to multiple times, recieved awful customer assistance, and was refused everytime I asked to speak with a manager. I went through Broadway photo, I thought they were reputable, guess I was wrong. Oh, and the finish price of what I actually recieved, I didn't save any money, I could have went to my local Ritz and picked it up without the hassle.

Nah, Broadway Photo is probably the biggest rip off artists out there.

Buy through a well known and reputable dealer.

I learned my lesson back in 2000 when I bought my old oly C2500, tried to save a few bucks, was pressured to buy more stuff, was sent a non-US unit that shipped with a much smaller mem card and didnt support the US video standard. When I called to try and return it I was given the run around, put on perpetual hold etc. Was never given an RMA number or an address to send it back.

I finally called my CC company and they reversed the charges which was later disputed by the company in question. I told my CC company I had no RMA number and had no specific address as to where to return the camera to and at that point they said that if I held on to it they would be forced to allow payment and advised that since the company in question wasnt taking my calls to simply provide them with proof that I shipped it back via detailed tracking info and they deny payment so thats what I did. It was nothing but a hassle however.

DIDN'T GET SUCKERED.

I just want to thank everyone who made these posts. I had been lured into usa photo nation website by a google ad. I was excited to think I'd get a nikon D200 for less than the price I was going to pay for a D80. I even called them to ask some questions about their address so I could confirm they were a real business. I asked if they stocked the same D200 body only package I would buy anywhere else and they said yes. I decided to do some further web research before placing an order and thank goodness for that.

The web presents a lot of ways to get conned, but thankfully it also provides forums like this help defend against scams. Thanks all for posting this info. I appreciate it saving me money and a big hassle.
