Just wanted to post this. Found from another forum. Man, if it came to me I probably would have wasted my time on it too...

Hello,
How is Business?

My name is Frank.I came across your advert on the Internet
and am impressed with your services so and I will like you to take care of the Photographs.

I am a DEAF and I reside in UK.The reason am contacting you is that i am organising a birthday party for my son that will be 24 yrs old.His name is OSHA and the party will take place
at my house in 3340 Tates Creek Rd Lexington, KY 40502,USA

All expenses would be taken care of; perhaps you can give me the total/Quotes charges, plus the transportation cost for you down to VENUE @ 3340 Tates Creek Rd Lexington, KY 40502,USA

Please I want the best services from you, because this is my only son so I want the best for him. So your best effort is needed at this occasion.

Also i will like to know if you are still available for the date
which is october 14th or 15th 2006.

Pls Let me know the charges for your service if you are to work for at most 2 Hours on that day,12 noon to 2 pm.

We want about 80 beautiful different photos in coloured form of the celebrant, his friends, the parents, the officiating ministers and our guests.

We will want you to work for 2 Hours at the
occasion,so kindly get back to me with the total cost including transportation charges to and from the venue.

I look forward to your response today.

Pls email me here only priest_frank2002@yahoo.co.uk

Best Regards
Frank.

NOTE...I just want you to understand that the maximum number of guest
should not exceed 50-70 people.

I understand there are several versions out there. If you say you are available and give him a price the next email will say that an associate of his is going to send you a check, and then he will ask you if you wouldn't mind sending the party coordinator his fee also if they just sent you one check for your fee's and the coordinators. bla bla bla
Well, you can take it from there :0)

So, they send you a check, and ask you to pay someone else, too?

Is the scam that the party doesn't exist, and they send you free money?

I must be missing something. I want free money!

ok then, here's the "you can take it from there" part... :0P

They will give some reason for not being able to send checks to both of you. In reality when you send one of your checks to the party coordinator you are actually sending it to the scam artist and your hard earned dollars.

I think it's saying you pay the party co-ordinator FIRST. Then they will send you a check to cover both costs (which you'll never get).

Added: Why would any self respecting business owner do that anyway?

You get the check first. The problem is, it's a counterfeit check. By the time the counterfeit check is returned you've long since sent the money on to the "planner." This is an old scam, it's targeted wedding photogtaphers in the past.

Why would you send a check out before the one you got clears? I wouldn't.

Also the Bank don't care who made the bogus check, they go after the person who cashed it... The bank will get their money back!

Because it takes the bank a few days to discover a fake cheque. It *appears* as if the money has gone into your account. So you send your money onto the planner thinking that the original cheque has cleared.

The scammers normally tell you to use Western Union to pay the planner. That way you can't trace the payment afterwards.

3 days later the bank phones you to tell you the cheque didn't clear because it's a fake, and then they take the money back out of your account.

It's a variant of a common scam. It doesn't matter if they send you the check first--theres won't clear, but yours will. So you will be out the money.

also the original person doesn't live in the same country you do, which makes everything much harder to trace and prosecute. Sometimes it can take up to a month for the check to be verified. By that time most people will have sent the other party the extra funds if they have fallen for the scam. People assume it's good if they haven't heard anything from the bank in a week.

dang if only I'd found this earlier...my wife was just near that very address...her and her friend were in Lexington tonight. I could have had her go by and see what's at that address.

This is just like those ones that say they have an received money from dead family but they want it converted to US dollars so they'll send it to you and you send it back...you of course get to keep a large portion for your troubles.

Glad you didn't fall for it, of course would you really be willing to go from AZ to KY to shoot someone birthday that you don't even know?

I would tell her to steer well clear.

Scammers like this are thugs, and have kidnapped and even murdered victims.

They can Western Union me first. There's NO WAY I could ever fall for a scam like that. It's to easy to catch.

Judging by the spelling, grammar, storyline, etc., this sounds very similar to the popular African scam of "I have inherited 10 million dollars in Somalia but cannot access the money without your help."

Anything with bad grammar written in British English (colour, etc.), and a crazy story such as "I am deaf," is most likely a scam.

But.. there is always a chance it really is an illiterate deaf guy wanting your services...

British English?

In my neighbourhood, where there are a variety of colours, and things never stray very far from the centre, there is a keen crowd of theatre-goers.

That neighbourhood is in Canada, from whence cometh much poor grammar and prodigious scams!

*Just practicing my "British English" while I prepare my next e-mail scam.*

hehe- no, this came from someone on another forum. Don't know what officiating ministers would be doing at a birthday party either!?! :0P

Exactly! That could very well have been an illiterate, deaf Canadian who has moved to the states to be taken care of by his son, to whom he wishes to thank with a great birthday party. And now, you've gone and ruined it and they won't have any photos to remember the day with. Ye of little faith.

The thing is with this sort of thing, and the other scams that get exposed on www.419eater.com is that they are, by and large, the most obvious cons ever. I mean, that's just completely ridiculous. Oh yeah, I'll surely take the time out to pay your party organiser for you to save you the trouble of cutting more than one cheque??? Eh? I think the phrase would be similar to "Sorry mate, I'm a photographer, not a bank".
