did I use too much neat image? the light wasn't great and I was at f4 so there was a little blur that I was trying to make sort of part of the picture

I personally think it's good. I can tell it's a softer picture, but I still like it.

Looks ok to me. Cute pic :)

yeah, me three, with the subject matter and the BW, I think it looks really nice soft, doesn't look plasticky or anything how neat image does when it's been overdone, nice picture

Gorgeous image. I don't see anything wrong with it. It certainly doesn't show any obvious over-processing.

Nice work.

To me it looks slightly too neatimaged. I especially notice it on the shirt.

Either image (processed or not) is lovely. Great subject. Nice use of off-camera space and light.

Could you or someone else post an example of badly overdone NI? I don't know what it looks like.

Thanks.

It's a wonderful image - not overdone IMO. Very nice!

Here is an example - one of mine I have to confess - where I totally overdid the Noise Ninja. The model, Pia, has wonderful skin so this was entirely overkill with the NN as I had lightly softened the skin anyhow. I really should post the lightly processed version that does not make Pia look like a shop window mannequin.

I looked again, I still don't see it... of course, I was one of those little girls who couldn't wait to grow up and wear make-up so that my face could look super powdery and airbrushed like a covergirl advertisement, so maybe I just like it soft.... ? : )

I like your NI application (and I'm not a big fan of NI on portraits). You did a good job.

I took a stab at your original.

I ran a glamour filter through Alien Skins Exposure. It's not free but there are a few free Glam/Diffusion actions here. //www.atncentral.com/download.htm

Afterwards, I applied a Warm Grey Tritone and tweaked levels and ran smart sharpen.

I probably could have pushed the diffusion a bit harder, but didn't want to go overboard.

Edit to fix broken thumb.

Its too much. Though it could be perfect if you just painted the NI away from the dog, kids eyes and hair on the layer mask. That dog needs much more texture and sharpness than he currently has after NI...just remove the NI from the dog, the kids eyes and hair and you should be good.
