My anti-virus program has expired, and I really don't have the money to reinstate it at the moment. Are there any good free anti-virus downloads that can keep my computer save for the moment?

AVG Free Edition is the one I use. Ad-Aware and Spybot other essential free programs can be downloaded at download.com.

AVG updates quite often their virus definitons, sometimes every couple of days; so it stays pretty current.

I've used avg for years... and recently switched to
Avast...the updates are smoother.. and it seems to work a touch better . BUT they're both wonderful FREE programs

as dagaleaa says,AVG is excellent, it is also worthwhile installing a firewall I use ZoneAlarm by ZoneLabs it is completely free and prevents intrusions by hackers onto your PC. You can download it fdor free at //www.download.com/3000-2092-10039884.html you won't regret it.

Gest of luck,

Neil

I used many over the years, and have found Avast to work great!
And it's free for personal use too.
I would continue to use it, even if they said it was no longer free and priced more than Norton.

I would say another absolute necesity is

Zone Labs

It has a free version which works great.

It basically monitors everything that goes to the internet. So if there are any hidden programs that are accessing the internet, they will be stopped in their tracks.

when a program tries to go on the net, like firefox it will ask you 'do you want to let firefox connect to the internet' you then select yet or no (and have the option for it to remember your answer for next time).

two thumbs up

Your ISP may provide free protection. Check out their site.
