I saw this monopod on Amazon.com and thought, for $13 why not?

I just received it today and I'm very impressed. Very light if you plan to use it for travel, the way it's designed it makes a great walking stick as well, and it's small enough that you can throw it in a backpack or carry on bag. The lever locks are solid with no slipage, the height goes up to 67", and considering all that it's pretty stable. It comes with a nifty little bag too.

Granted, it does not have a ball head or a quick release, but for $13 what do you expect?

gotta love it when shipping is more than the product! Gotta love living in Canada.

Still a good deal.

Nice. Ordered it on Tuesday, got it today. This thing is friggin' genius! It says 67" but it's gotta be more than that cuz it is above my eyes fully extended and I'm 6'1".

If you've been looking for a monopod, GET THIS! It's worth it. Even living in Canada and paying more for shipping than the monopod.

Thanks for the lead Dog.

I used to have this monopod (it was in the trunk when my car got broken into...) and it definately worked well. I think I paid $25 for it and used it at a lot of track meets and the like. It is not the sturdiest thing out there but it is extremely portable!

Wow what a deal. I just ordered one too. Thanks for the tip.

I can't seem to find the weight limit on it. Might be nice to leave it in the car.

Got mine today too. My first monopod, and I am glad I finally have one. I now know why so many people insist on having one.

Still can't believe I got it so cheap too, thanks for posting the great deal.

Ended up changing my order to two, one for my friend. Supposed to show up here in another hour! Will be good for checking out the King Tut exhibit in the museum this weekend.

You'll have to tell me how it is. I also live in Chicago, and have been thinking about going to see it.

how does a monopod differ to a tripod?

It has 1 leg instead of 3. Good for stability - not so good for self portraits ;)

I thought Tut was a photo-free zone :(

As an FYI to new monopodians:
You may want to peruse the proper use of a monopod to maximize stability.

Hmm, where did you hear that? I checked the museum site and it said photography was welcome but if you had a tripod (or I assume a monopod) to get a permit at the information desk.

Worried now. Going to call them directly (ahh the joys of calling public institutions in Chicago...argh).

edit: Got the monopods. Very stable, light, nice bag. Does the job.

most of the way down:

"Are food and photography allowed in Tutankhamun?
Food and photography are not permitted in the exhibition. Photography is permitted in the Museum’s permanent collections, but guests are asked to eat only in the designated areas. "

Damn, I called and they said no dice. Only bright spot in an otherwise dull day with wife and mother-in-law...

Well that's not very fair. Wish there was a way you could sign a consent form saying you wouldn't sell your pictures or something.
