Okay. I took these of my friend Emily at Land Park in Sacramento as composition practice and I touched them up with the basics.

I ask anyone who reads this to not only explain what would have made this set better pre-shot, but to post-edit it and explain what techniques you used etc.

I need to get some bearing as to which direction to head, what to look up, etc. to get to the point where I can start dictating my own styles.

Last one is an orig.

You might want to consider different lighting / contrast?

Ok. Lemme narrow it down a little in addition. Is there anything I can do to reduce the shirt being 'blown'? Dodging of some sort? Not anywhere near knowledable about dodging/burning even though I've read the tutorial. Any help? (Btw, I didn't know she'd be in a white shirt and she had white underneath..)

Dodging lightens things, burning darkens them. There fore you would want to burn it to make it darker. However since the shirt is blown to a point where there isn't any texture or anything left, there it nothing to darken. Burning will only work of if there is texture of some sort.

I like #3 the best. If you shot in raw, there may yet be a bit of texture left that you could pull back by decreasing the exposure in the raw conversion phase. If it was shot jpeg then the detail is probably already lost (unless you lost it after-the-fact by bumping up the contrast).
