Anyone have the Slik Sprint Mini and/or have an opinion on it? I need a small and light travel tripod and I'm leaning towards this one.

Thanks.

A lot of the travel/mini tripods are meant for P & S cameras.

Attaching an SLR with even a moderate weighted lens could be asking for trouble.

Do you have a link to the one you're looking at?

Also, max height is another consideration. It can get very unconfortable if you always have to bend over to look through the viewfinder. (Max height = 43.3 inches)

(not trying to discourage this particular choice, just food for thought)

I have this tripod. It's very small and light which makes it very nice for traveling. However, as expected it is not as sturdy as larger tripods and has some flexibility in the legs, but it can hold my Nikon D50 with a 28-80mm lens, and probably something a bit heavier just fine.

Thanks for the info so far.

The 43" height is a compromise for the compactness and weight. I'm 6'2" so unless it's 60" high, more height won't help much. at 43" I can sit and compose the shot so it works out well.

I am concerened about the 3.5 lb rating though. The 20D (wife's camera) and 17-40 come in at 3 pounds, and with the 24-70 (future purchase) It'll be right at 3.5 pounds, so I'd be pushing the rated limit. I wouldn't be using it for telephoto, landscape only.

Man, you beat me too it! I was just going to recommend this one. I use it when traveling. I used it for this shot when standing on a dusty & gusty sand hill in Peru. Not the sturdiest tripod for that type of situation, but you can't pass on the small and convenient size of the thing when traveling. I use it on hikes, etc.

I actually use the Velbon Ultra MAXiF since I don't need the height of the Ultra Luxi and it is a bit smaller when folded. May not work as well for the larger dSLRs (10D, 20D, 30D, D100, D200, etc)since the quick release for this model is pretty small.

Took it a couple of times on a plane strapped to my backpack and no problems in carryon too.

I have this tripod and I use it with my 350D and 70-200 2.8 L which is over the 3.5lb limit. So far it seems to work fine as long as I use the self timer. It is light and small so it is a very nice travel tripod. Even if I didn't use it, I don't feel like "why did I bring this here?". Anyway, very handy when you need it.

Slik Pro 340DX...I'm thinking of getting this myself.
Maximum Height 57.9" (147 cm)
Maximum Height w/o Column Extended 45.7" (116 cm)
Minimum Height 18.1" (46 cm)
Folded Length 19.3" (49 cm)
Load Capacity 11 lb (5 kg)
Weight 3.5lbs

After a lot of digging, I ended up getting a velbon maxi 343e on Ebay for $63 with shipping. I wanted the ball head with the lever lock legs, and it holds up to 8 pounds. Folds down to 17", 15 if you take off the head, and an even 2 pounds.

Thanks for the input!
