ok. Here's the deal:
I took some pics for a friend of mine. Pics are of his kids. He just wants them on CD (one for him, one for the kids' mom) so that each of them can pick which ones to print later (sitting was pre-paid).
I want them to have a release for printing the pics. Wally-world is the most likely place for printing - especially since she has no computer access at all.

My question is (since I have NO experience with wal-mart questioning me as far as ownership/copyright goes) would the release below be enough to let them get the pics printed? If not, what else do I need to add?

Any input is helpful!

In my experiences, frustrating as it is, and chronicalled in another thread, :) that should be enough.

should be.

Try to print your release on some sort of letterhead looking paper not plain or store bought. If you don't have one, make one by creating a little logo or use a fancy font for the Business name... oh, and sign it with an ink of different color than the print!

I do, but like I said, their mother has NO computer or internet access and can't afford to buy prints at the moment. Since she lives about six hours away from me (the kids are up to see their dad), it's a bit of a pain for her to come up here when she makes a decision as to which pics she wants when she finally gets the $$. :) Otherwise, I would.

Oh - and thanks to karmat and Ristyz for the input!

this is exellent advice....also, if you're still uneasy you can always sign it in front of a notary and have it stamped with their seal. (I don't know how picky wal-mart it)

Put copies of the waiver in both Acrobat PDF (with your letterhead design) and plain text on the CD itself, along with the pictures.

If you really want to get fancy, see if you can make up a contact sheet of the images and make that part of the PDF.

I use walmart all the time, all they require is a document that they have all printed up to be signed. They keep it on record, but every time I go in to have some prints done, I have to refill it out. No biggy

I'd stick a Jpeg of the release on the CD and give a printed copy as well.

Don't use PDF, because not every company can print PDF, and many stores need a copy to keep on file. :)

That's why I said to include a plain text file too ... but JPEG is a great idea too -- they can print a 4x6 print right on their photo printer.

I use the lightscribe cd's that let me burn the label on the cd. That way I put "Owner of this CD has permission to print photos" (along with my name and number) right on the cd itself. I have never had any problems.

Depending on the Walmart, they might not even be asked for a release. (Especially if it's one of those Walmarts with the photo station where you choose which photos to print on your own.) But it's always good to have something on hand. Mandyturner's idea of printing it on the CD is brilliant!

FYI, the only time I've ever been asked for a release at Walmart was when I was printing my own photos (wanted some shots RIGHT NOW to show to a friend). When I went to pick up my prints, the kid behind the counter said, "Uh, you need to have a release from the photographer to print these, since they're professional pictures."
"I... what?"
"You need a release from the photographer or I can't give them to you."
"I'm the photographer. I took those."
"Uh... do you have any proof that you took them?"
"..."
"Do you have proof you're a photographer?"
"Uh... what? What are you talking about? I took those."
"Ma'am we require a release from the photographer to print professional photos."
"Okay. Do you have something I can sign?"
"Yeah. Here. But you can only sign it if you took those photos."
"I TOOK THOSE PHOTOS!"
"Okay. Sign here."

That photoslave made my day, despite the irritation he caused me. Someone other than my mother thinks my photos look professional!

This was apparently the photo that made him suspect I was printing pro shots. I'll link to it, because it's a naked back:

Well, I went and talked to the local Wally-world, and they said that the release I'd worked up (shown in the original post) would be fine, and that it would be required if the shots looked at all "professional" (although they did not define "porfessional").

I included a jpeg of it on the cd (4x6)(thank you blemt and GeneralE!) so they can print a copy when they print the pics, plus I gave them a paper copy of the release, and I also borrowed mandyturner's suggestion to write it on the cd itself.

I'll let you know if I have any problems out of it.

Thanks for all of ya'll's help!
