Ok, thanks to everyone who provided input on episode 1. I tried to incorporate as many suggestions as possible by adding more conversation and an interview. Unforatunately I have about 10 hours or more of production time into this and didn't focus on bells and whistles. Hopefully the interviews and conversations will make it interesting. As always I'm looking for lots of feedback...what worked, what didn't. Without feedback the podcast won't continue. It takes a LOT of work!!! My interview with Larus alone was 48 minutes and took hours to edit down to the 11 minute segment that made the 25 minute podcast.

For podcasters here is a link to the rss feed:

Please note that I'm still working on the sound levels and that this is recorded in full stereo. If you do not have stereo speakers you may only get one half the recorded conversations and interviews. I'll try to figure out a way to make it mono in the future.

48 minutes with Larus? So you couldn't get him to stop talking about himself? :P

I'd love to stay up and watch the early returns on this one but I'm dead beat exhausted and not feeling well. I hope everyone will leave feedback on episode 2 and give me suggestions to make it better.

Enjoy the show.

Sounds good to me Lee, all except for the fact that I probably said "Actually" a million times :P

Oh and the people listening, keep in mind that english is my third language and I have spent less than a week of my life in an english speaking country so if you think I sound like an idiot, THAT´S the reason (right!) :)

Thanks for the comments so far. I noticed that both Rikki and Joey Lawrence have posted to this forum and both of them have been requested to do an interview. Now that you guys have seen what an interview might look like, can we get you on? For those interested and living in the United States I can call and interview you over the phone for free using Skype and you don't have to download any special software. If you live outside of the United States however you will need to download Skype and add me to your pals so we can chat. I need to know who my next interview is so I can start preparing questions. Keep in mind there is no reason I can't do more than one interview in a week and just keep the second interview around for the next availalbe podcast.

Man did I make a huge error. My litle chats throught the podcast are with the DPC member "fence kicker." I kept calling her "full life" because in another chat program that is what I know her by. I'm going to hear about this for years, I just know it!

Shhh... no one is supposed to know my alter-ego... muahhhahahah.

lol

Now I'll have to get a new identity!

btw, I'm *still* downloading (slow dial-up today). only 19% to go...

This is a tremendous idea, its great to actually hear people. We get so much more from the spoken word than we can do from the forums.

Keep em coming. I'll keep listening.

Thanks again for the feedback. I'm going to see if I can find out how many people are actually listening to the show. I've got to tell you there is a BOAT load of work going into these (even if it doesn't show). Hopefully I can learn to streamline the process a little but I don't know if there are 5 or 50 people listening right now so I need to examine that next.

I love it.... Larus has a wonderful accent and provided great responses.

I'm very impressed Lee Farrell, nice job!. Is the one from last week still up somewhere? I missed it.

Lee,

Great improvements from the last time... I like the way you broke up the reading/announcement parts. The interview with Larus (pronounced Low-rRrus?) was very interesting.

If I do the conversation thing again for you, I need to speak more clearly, and maybe louder. BTW... you like to have the last word don't you? :P

I think that a mid-contest podcast might have some advantages over an open-challenge turn-over night podcast. For instance a discussion about the current challenge won't do contestants much good if it comes out the morning after the submission deadline closes. And, speakers can't discuss any details on the submission that they just entered nor the one in which voting is just ending. A podcast in the middle of the contest will only prevent people from discussing details about the photo that is currently being voted on (and no hints of what their next subject might be). They could still discuss the rules of the new challenge, as well as their fresh thoughts and commentary on the recently closed challenge. Anyway, its something I think you might want to consider.

And... Good job! :)

I'm curious whether or not people got anything out of the little chats we had about Bokeh, voting criteria, etc. I'm sure people are interested in hearing the voices behind the photos but would people rather have MORE interview and less chat or was the mix good on this one?
06/28/2006 11:31:24 AM · #23
I didn't have a chance to enter Bokeh II but I did participate in the first Bokeh contest and nearly ribboned (do'h!). Take a look at the top 4 (because I'm fourth). Only one of those images has the little blurred circles in the background blur.

I had difficulty understanding exactly what Bokeh was too, but have since come to realize that it's one of those things that, like pornography, is difficult describe, but "I know it when I see it."

Thanks strangeghost. In a way it's pretty funny having a podcast about photography being hosted by someone who can't shoot good photos himself! LOL I suppose my work on the podcast could teach me a thing or two though.

STILL LOOKING FOR INTERVIEWS FOR EPISODE 3!!!!!
06/28/2006 02:00:10 PM · #25
I think this podcast was much improved over the last one. The interviews are great! I like how you incorporated some info about entering/voting, as well as letting us hear a little about how Larus put together his shots and what his feelings are about them. As I was listening and couldn't figure out who "full life" was, I was thinking it might be helpful if you put links to the folks profiles who you were interviewing that day in the original message where you link to the podcast.

Great job! Keep em coming! :)
