Ok, not everyone can afford amazing gear. we know that. but we do have many tools that can compensate for that. This question revolves around one of them....

Barrel Distortion.....

In my little camera, I can get some noticble barrel distortion on shots. I can very easily remove this in Photoshop, but I have 2 questions......

1) Does removing this in photoshop go against the rules of the game? I know i could crop to a smaller section where it is less noticible, or non-existant, but what is the call on lend distortions?

and....

2) One of those solutions is a filter. the filter is applied across the entire image, but it is a lugin filter nonetheless. Is this legal?

Have an odd, but great pic for the "ground up", but there is noticible distortion at the edges. Would love to post it as an abstract "what the hell is it" kinda photo.. but if i can't correct the barrel distortion I am not so sure i woudl be happy with it.

I'm not sure what barrel distortion looks like and I'm curious. Can you post a shot not related to the "ground up" challenge that exhibits this? I'd like to see what it looks like.

check out my entry to the self-port challenge. the way the lines in the door and paneling are curved: that's barrel distortion, ie shaped like a barrel. my camera does that at wide angle zoom.

Still no official reply? can we correct barrel distortion? Can we use sweeping filters of this nature?
