In another thread there was a link to a program, Preview Extractor, that can tell a Nikon owner how many shots their DSLR had taken. Does anyone know how a Canon owner can get this info?

Not that I know of... It'd be nice though.

My 20D got reset at a bit over 35000, and the 10D has done 12000 since I got it 2nd hand... I'd like to know how far 'not-new' my shutters are.. Although at the rate I'm going the 20D body is going to give out before the shutter. :-).

Cheers, Me.

In another thread tonight, someone asked the same question. My response...

A quick Google search seems to indicate that such a thing doesn't exist for the Canon line, with the exception of the 1D series for which is there is CanCount.

Supposedly canon service can get the number out of the body. i did fine on continous count till i started using 2 bodies, then swapping the CF cards back and forth got both cameras cornfused.

Both are babies - 5000-5500 or so on the 20D and 2500-4500 on the 30D. Yeah, i really lost count on it. The 20D came wiht 4200 and it's my backup so it gets used little. the 30D is my main and had 700 or so on it (maybe 900) when i stuck a 20D card in it and it jumped to 4300...and yesterdays pics are at 6967 - so it's in the 3500 area maybe?

There's "CanCount" but it only works for 1-series bodies.

Althought the counter resets on Canon cameras - the folder # doesn't. I just hit my 500th folder and on average they will have 100 pics in each folder - so you can surmise that my camera has about 50K actuations ---- right?

1D - 60k (probably under)
20D - 5500

Yes, and no.. If you've card swapped you're going to loose it the folder number as well as the image number..

27626 on my 350D plus or minus er... nothing.
I only have one body (and one camera) so remember how often the counter resets.
It would be a nice feature to have, particularly for buying a 2nd hand body (or a 2nd hand camera;-)

Heh... I wish there was a way to reset the stupid folders...

I had some test shots kicking around on some of my CF cards, including one that I took with a second hand 20D to test a 35-350L in the shop...

That put me up to folder 737... And I'm already on 4400 shots...

I do know that I did 988 exposures this last weekend though... That's a LOT of RAW! :) Time to buy a DVD burner... CD's officially no longer cut it... :)
