Hey Everyone!

I need some input regarding pricing for a new photo project I'm bidding for.

A restaurant owner has asked me to photograph his food and products for a new website intended to generate a large customer base. It's a fairly classy gourmet bistro/market with a wide selection of unusual dishes both cold and hot as well as wines, beers and other pre-packaged items.

The site would have 12 major sections each focusing on a theme such as wine, beer, cheese, deserts, hot food, cold food, etc. The idea is to arrange the foods in a panoramic composition for each theme and photograph in a close-up style that allows several items/dishes to be showcased with mouth-watering detail across one panoramic image. Additional macro/close-up images of the individual items in the composition can then be captured as well.

The food would be prepared by the chef and shooting would take place in the main dining area of the bistro. I will likely be playing stylist as much as I can unless I can convince the client to hire a specialist.

I'm figuring each theme would require a separate photo session of about 5 hours. I'm then estimating another 2 hours to proof each session and correct/touch-up 5-8 images. That's a total of roughly 60 hours spent generating around 250 raw images in camera; 24 hours proofing/correcting up to 100 images for potential end use by the client.

The client hopes to roll out a new website with the new photography in about a month. He would later want to use the images for posters, flyers, emails, booth backgrounds, etc.

How much would you charge for a project like this?
What about licensing of the images for web use or print use?
What about an option for the client to buy exclusive rights to the images?

Opinions / Thoughts ?????

Thanks,

Neil

I'm lousy at pricing, but this deserves a bump so someone better at it might see it ... I do know that, whatever you're estimating, it will take longer.

I would charge an hourly rate for a job like this, in my case probably $60/hr. So it seems like approximately 84 hours from what you've said, which comes out to $5,040.

I would give the client full print/web rights to the photos for use as they saw fit for their business in the future, but retain the copyrights myself.

If they wanted to purchase the copyrights outright I would price them at $500-$1,000 per picture.

I would probably ask for 50% of the total quoted price as deposit before the first shoot, and the remaining 50% when the photography is completed and delivered.

Thats just me though and you might be in a completely different situation that would warrent you charging more or less.
