I've heard that some camera's are not able to produce IR shots, how can I find out if this is the case with my camera? And will taking IR shots damage my camera in any way?

| Unless Canon has changed things the only camera in the G series that can take IR photos is the G1. Since then they have incorporated a filter inside the camera which blocks most of the IR wavelength. I believe I got this info on either stevesdigicams.com or dpreview.com. If I find the link to the article I will post here. |

Point any remote control (tv/vcr) into the camera lens, and press a button on the remote whle viewing the image on the LCD monitor...
If you can see a pulsating light beam when you press buttons on the remote, your camera is capable of taking IR images. |

| When I hooked up my G5 to the TV and used the camera's own remote, there was the blinking light. Dunno how to expose in just IR tho.. But it's nice to know I can. |

If the camera see the TV remote transmitter diode,shouldn't be a problem!

LarsPaysen above posted a link to Klempt. The guys name is Don Ellis and he is a genius with IR. He has a G1 modified with the hot glass (IR blocking filter infront of the camera's sensor) removed and a stock piece of glass installed. His camera is IR all the time. Great stuff. Quite an artist...

Thankyou for explaining that to me I really appreciate it, I guess I'll try and get an IR filter now and see how it goes. Thanks again. |
