The kids and I will be going to the beach this week. I have never brought my D70 with me before because I am nervous about the sand and everything. I am really wanting some great beach shots though. Anyone have any useful tips for bringing cameras to the beach? Thanks!

I use a dry bag with some towels also stuffed inside to help cushion the camera and to help with humidity issues.

I use it whenever I am in conditions that involve water (like kayaking and other types of boating) but it should work great for sand also. They can be found at watersport stores in various sizes.

I also just bought the Fantasea FD70 underwater housing for my D70. That would work out in the surf to keep out the water while shooting but you wouldn't want to use it while in and around the sand.

we've taken ours a lot...we live close to the beach! have had no problems so far. pretty much, we leave the camera bag accessible (to put it in immediately). one of us has camera duty, the other has toddler duty, adn we just wrap the strap around our wrist once and have fun.

you could also bring a large gallon size ziplock back to seal it in in the event some sand gets into your camera bag. we haven't had a problem with this, but i could see it happening.

we were really hesitant to take it with us when we first got it last year, but now we've decided that we dont' want to miss any shots of max.

also, don't put your lens cap down...hold it in one hand while shooting.

have fun!!!!

have fun!!!

we haven't don't any lens changes on the beach...i think i'm still scared to do this with the sand and ocean spray.

Oh yeah, one more thing: Do not allow the surf to splash the underside of the D70 AT ALL!!!

When I was in Antigua shooting the reefs and cliffs along the coast, a wave hit the rocks just right. I lifted my D70 skyward and thought that the tiny bit of water that hit the bottom of the camera wasn't a problem, but it was fried immediately. It cost about $180 to get it repaired at a local repair shop.
