Can someone tell me how large a 3 megapixel JPG (in fine mode) file is? The Sony DSC-S75 camera only comes with an 8mb memory stick and I need to know about how many images that will hold...

Thanks!

Jm I can give an example for a 3.2mp nikon with 16 mb card
3:2 fine = 11
fine = 10
uxga = 16
sxga = 25
xga = 38
vga = 87
You can expect 5 with your highest quality setting. Maybe 6
I ALWAYS use highest quality setting. Hope this helps.

David,

Thanks for the info... my girlfriend got the DSC-S75 tonite and we didn't buy an extra memory stick just yet....

I always use the highest quality setting on my DSC-F707 as well and the JPG files I get there are anywhere between 1.8 and 2.5mb... I don't play with the TIFF mode too often... those are 17mb each...

Thanks for the info!

17mb..... I'm glad I set it on JPG. When are they coming out with a 256MB memory stick?

I don't know... I wish they would tho.. I have two 128mb sticks and that gives me between 100 and 120 photos... The 128mb sticks are $89 normally... They aren't as cheap as the compact flash cards. That's the only tradeoff i have found so far with the sony cameras. I'm still happy with the sony tho... (not knockin' anyone else's camera)... There are a LOT of great cameras on the market now...

I'm using an Olympus C-3030. I take all my pictures in HQ (High Quality) and I get some very nice shots. The 3mp images come out to about 700kb. I have a SHQ (Super High Quality) and these images came out about between 1.5MB to 2.0MB.

Hope this helps.

Chariot,

Thanks for the info. I believe we have it figgered out now. My girlfriend got a new 3mp camera this weekend and, being a Sony, it came with an 8mb memory stick. We didnt' buy an additional memory stick right away. I'm going to give her my extra 32mb stick and then let her decide what her needs are. I'm fairly sure that she will pick up a 128mb stick sometime soon ;)

I shot 75 pictures on my F707 tonite and filled up one 128mb stick and about a third of another one... I always use the *fine* mode on mine and that makes jpg files that are between 1.9 and 2.5mb. I think I'm gonna consider getting myself another 128mb stick since Sony doesn't appear to be working on a 256mb and 512mb rendition of their storage media...
