Hey,

I haven't been around much lately, and may have made an infraction with my current 'Green' entry. I'm wanting to clarify the legality of my workflow.

Without giving too much away, I applied the CS1 Shadow/Highlight tool to my image, and then ran a Velvia saturation action (the Paul Bleicher 2004 version) which, as far as can tell, only adjusts opacity and saturation on layers other than one action which uses a 'soft light' blending mode in Layer Adjustments. I hadn't spotted this before, and I believe this is illegal. If it is, I'll apologise and retract my entry. I hate to do so as it's scoring rather well right now, but I of course will if I have to.

Anyone know if this tool and action are legal? I've searched the forums but haven't found a definitive answer. I do believe that I could produce a virtually identical image without these tools, but it would be tedious work.

Thanks in advance.

Why don't you request validation for your image? I think it's a better way to be sure.

That statement alone tells me no it isn't legal. Only normal blending mode on an adjustment layer is legal in basic. Also, only one data layer is allowed.

Any blend mode other than Normal is illegal.
Duplicating a layer is illegal if it contains any pixels.
If I were you I would contact the SC through the HELP > Contact menu above. You can send them your entry and possibly the action and they can say weather you have violated any rules.

Hope this helps

Cheers for speaking up, though. :)

The Velvia action duplicates a layer and uses "Color" as the blending mode which is not allowed. Bummer man!

Edit to add: It uses Color as the blending mode by default. SO If you accepted the default settings, then yes, it is illegal in Basic Editing.

I'm talking to Frisca about it. No worries, my self worth isn't caught up in my occasional DPC score. It wouldn't be too hard to figure out which one is mine, given my portfolio link, should one wish to do so. It'll probably be DQ'd, which is unfortunate as it's at about 6.8 right now.

...anyways.

Turn yourself in. They'll go easier on you.

...I can hear it now down at the SC precinct office: "Good news! We just nabbed Jimmy The Fish!" LOL

Good luck on future entries - remember you must register with local authorities as a challenge offender.

Hope this doesn't deter you from entering again, and soon!

I got DQed for using a layer containing pixels in Failure.

OK, just self-DQ'd me. Here's the photo in question:

WOW! Awesome photo. Ribbon material for sure. Props for coming clean on the rules violations before it hit the front page :-)

That's too bad, that was one of my top picks. I did comment on it in the challenge stating that it appeared to be PP'd more than Basic would allow, although I voted assuming that it was within the rules. ;)

On the other hand, I applaud your honesty.
