Now that we are (mostly) settled, I think it's time for another gtg and I am happy to plan it. I still have to do some research on our meeting/shooting options but I thought I'd start the thread so we can settle on a date. I was thinking of the following:

August 19th - JQ, MH, KO, AR, BH, LB, OB, TM, RL, P2, PZ, BD?, AG?, IN?, RA?

JQ - Chiqui
MH - Manic
AR - Artan
KO - Konador (cancelled)
BH - BenHur
TM - Tom
OB - Obsidian
LB - Legalbeagle
BD - Bod (cancelled)
RA - Raish
PZ - Puzzled
RL - RiponLady
P2 - P2jvr

Please let me know what date you are interested in and if you have any suggestions for what we could do or where we could go feel free to post those as well. I will do some research and come up with some options myself. I was thinking of something off the beaten track since we have covered so much of mainstream London on the previous gtgs.

UPDATE

have booked us at Thai Square on The Strand, the address is

148 The Strand
London, WC2R 1JA

here is a map (the closest tube station is Temple)

We will be ordering from a set menu wichi costs £8.95 and includes 1 starter, 1 main and coffee or tea. Seafood dishes will be £1 extra. I have looked at the menue and it's pretty extensive for a set menu. Those of you who want to order a la carte can do so but make sure they waiter/waitress knows till will be a separate bill to avoid confusion.

Please be there at 12:45 PM, our booking is for 1PM and they will not hold the table. I will be posting my phone number closer to the time in case anyone needs to get a hold of me or gets lots. I'm looking forward to meeting you all.

CONTINGENCY PLAN

In case of inclement weather, we will still meet at the above restaurant but will go to the British Museum instead of the walk. So, I recommend you buy a travelcard if you don't have an Oyster card. Now let's pray the British weather does not live up to its reputation!

I'd love to come to another GTG, so I'm making an early vote for one of the first two dates, as we'll be on holiday for the proposed August dates.

I'm definitely available on any of those dates, which isn't much of a surprise!

As for where we go, we just need somewhere where there's plenty of interest, and a decent pub/restaurant to start/finish in... :o)

So we could sit in a pub all day taking photos of ourselves?

Tempting... but I think Chiqui would kill me, so it'd probably best to go see some sights too ;o)

Don't the sights in a pub change with the more pints you have? :D Full days worth of shooting in a pub!

Should be free on any of those dates... they're Sat/Sun right?

Might be able to make the July 22 one but not the rest... not 100% sure on that one yet either.

I'm considering flying over to london for the gtg, I vote for july because for some reason the airplane tickets are cheaper in july then in august.

edit
Maybe the prices are different beacuse of vaction and stuff.

I would be interested.
The date I cannot do is the 29th July already booked up that date.

I cannot do 22/7, but can probably manage one of the others.

Thanks for organising!

Less then 60£/night (I'm not fussy about bathrooms and stuff, as long as its got a roof its fine) ;)

I remember that Chiqui stayed at the Georgian House Hotel between Victoria & Pimlico when she was first visiting London, which was about £45/night for a single room. There are also plenty of hostels in London, such as the Piccadilly Backpackers which starts at £12/night, if you're willing to share with others. You'll probably want to check that they have lockers to store your valuables/camera gear beforehand though.

This sounds good to me. Preferred dates are second July date (first date too close to the European GTG) and the second August date (the other one is my birthday).

Or has my speed reading of the post missed the chosen dates?

Sigh - getting too old...
06/11/2006 02:34:22 PM · #23
IF it's the first date, should be both Pete and me that can come....
06/11/2006 04:21:05 PM · #24
Anyone have any suggestions on what we could do? I'm still researching our options. It's hard to come up with something new when we've had 7 other gtgs!

As long as it's not too expensive, I'm easy :)
