I drove 2 miles to my favorite park to get an "Unexpected Find" entry....came back with a 6 - 7 point unusual "Green" entry! ...and it's not any kind of plant!

I'm pumped and ready for Green !

Thats life, sometimes we get nothing when we search, I have travelled to the Arctic many many times, thousands of miles, and have yet to shoot a Polar Bear! Its times when we least expect it that we will capture a particular shot that we have previously envisioned

If I drive a long ways for a shot something is going in. May explain my crappy average....but something is going in.

:)

You should of kept driving and gone south to the border. Not that you would of been any more inspired, but at least you would of seen more crap, at the very least alot of shit, manure, merde, and good ole' American cow paddies.

I've driven an hour or two and not even taken my camera out of the bag. Sometimes you just don't see whatever it is that you're looking for (and yes, sometimes we're not even sure what it is that we're looking for).

My wife and I hiked into the woods to shoot a waterfall, well we new that the waterfall was about 1.6 miles down the trail. what we were not told was that along that 1.6 mile trail the elevation rose over 800+ ft. Me being the very determined kind however refused to turn back.

Once we got to the waterfall approximately 2-3 hours later, the sun was directly over the water and created such a glare that nothing I tried could remove it from the water.

I waited 3 hours at the waterfall to see if the sun would come off the falls without any luck. The only thing I could do is stand and admire the beauty of this waterfall.

So to make a long story short, I waste roughly 8 hours that day trying to get this waterfall and came away with nothing. And that doesnt include the 2.5hour drive from my house or back to it.

The one thing I do have to say I did learn when to come back and shoot the waterfall. which would be early early morning. Here is a link to a photo of this falls(not my photo) for anyone who wants to see why anyone would go through what I did.

what's the furthest/longest you've gone and brought back crap?

I've made a couple long trips where I got squat from my original objectives.

The first time I drove about 320 miles (515 kilometers) to Page, Arizona for the weekend to take pictures of the famous slot canyons in Antelope Canyon. It was overcast during the critical time of the day so I never even went to the canyons at all.

The second time I drove 175 miles (280 kilometers) to Imperial Valley to take sunrise pictures of its famous sand dunes. The pictures were, shall we say, disappointing.

But the great thing about outdoor photography is that nature and circumstance often provides unexpected gems when the original objectives are unrealized. On the first trip I captured a rare closeup of a California Condor and on the second trip a favorite picture of the Yuma Territorial Prison:
