Is it normal practice for the DP challenge to ask for the original?

Am i simply being paranoid or is there cause for concern?????

Have you ever read the submission guidelines.
06/02/2006 01:34:49 PM · #3
It simply means some one was requested your picture be validated to make sure it didn't break any rules.

Yes it's normal

No there is no reason to be concerned if you followed the rules

Now go submit your original!

Just means someone has challenged your entry...thinks maybe it doesn't meet the rules or something along those lines...if you did everything right there should be no problem

Edit -- I'm always too late to give an answer...maybe I type too slow.

It often happens if someone suspects something - eg think it was taken outside the challenge dates, or that you've used advanced editing on a basic editing challenge. Plus top 10 (i think, may be top 5) always get original requested. Nothing to worry about, so long's you can send the original in 48hrs

edit: too many people, too quick at typing :(

It is very normal, and no reason to worry. As said above, someone requested that your challenge entry be validated. To validate an entry we need to see the original, unaltered file (as it came out of the camera).

Please don't worry.

I take it as a compliment. someone thought "now way he did that leagly" and I get to say " yes i did!"

I took my request for validation for my architecture entry as a compliment too , because there's nothing wrong with it, even the post processing is nothing else but cropping and sharpening, but I still get comments with low(er) votes as if I did something illeagal.

Down from 5.2 to 4.9

I sent in about 100 Originals, to ask the council if they were legal as I wasn't sure if the cloning I had done was legal or not.

The council only got back to me to DQ my entry. I would have withdrawn my entry had they let me know - I am so upset by the actions of DPchallenge.

I was about to payh my membership, but you dont need $25. it means nothing to you but would have meant a lot to me...

I am so angry because I specifically asked them to check if it was legal, and although they seemed friendly any justification they give me will be replied with "shove it"

Thanks to everyone else who tried to assist when I PM'd them.....

Don't take this wrong, but why would you need to send in 100 originals? That's enought to overhelm anyone, especially the SC.

100 Originals? Is that a typo? You have only two challenges (not counting any that may currently being voted on). So that's the maximum you could have validated. Any and all editing is allowed on pictures outside of the challenge. :)

Well not to be mean or hurtful, but you being a registered member cloning is not allowed in most of our challenges that we are allowed to enter. Also the cloning tool is a powerful tool to be used lightly. My thought on cloning is if you think you did too much to ask for an opinion then more than likely you will be DQed.

Exageration is a figure of speech. I didnt know it had to be an original directly from the camera - I am new to Digital photography, as my other two challenges were also no efforts with my powershot A400...

All I needed was one e-mail after I had sent 7 (literal for those struggling with the big words) to enquire whether my challenge was ok.

There is a time and place for exageration. Now for you to come out and think that we strugle with big words, when your refering to NUMBERS you might want to tone down the sarcasm. (and yes I do strugle with big words.)

With that out of the way: My question is how long did you wait between each of your 7 e-mails? The SC do have lives.

Just my 2 cents.

You know what? Just forget it...this is a dead thread.

Thank you to the council who tried to help me and the people who posted, I'll just have to be more careful in the future....

I enjoy these forums to say shove it...sorry moment of anger...I know the council works hard to check and validate images....

Thanks again guys....

If you need help understanding the rules and you don't feel like you're getting an adequate answer from the SC for whatever reason (I know they do make their best effort), you can always ask in the forums as long as you do it without describing your specific entry. Lots of people here have been around the site for a long time, have a good understanding of the rules and are always willing to help. For next time. :)

Before slamming council for not having the time to be at your beck and call, did you try reading this?

THE RULES

Or searching the various threads? I know in my short time here I've seen several asking about the legality of cloning, etc. in basic, as well as on transferring files with programs that could affect the file.

Just think for a moment. If even a tenth of entrants in any one challenge submitted shots beforehand for checking, they'd have about a hundred to go through, on top of all the verifications requested on the challenges undergoing voting, the routine ones on ended challenges, all the other questions/complaints/requests they get. These are just normal people like you, with lives, jobs, family, and a desire to have time to pursue their own photography. They join council out of a wish to help, and they deserve OUR help to do their job properly. This includes doing everything we can to resolve things before contacting them, in my opinion.

edit to add; written before Gareth's last post, but the sentiment stands for any and all. Glad you calmed down before you decided to chuck it all, Gareth :)
