I lost a handful of photos during a computer breakdown. (not to many, thank God) I was able to get a stock agency that I had previously submitted them to to upload the files back to me. They are in bitmap. How do I convert back to a more friendly format?

Open in any photo editing program and 'Save As...' -- this allows you to choose the format you want.

But I must say, bitmap seems an odd format for them to sent the files back to you -- did you send them to them as bitmaps?
