I was wondering what would be the best dlsr for a photographer who has been taking pictures for about 7 months now. And i would like to keep the price under $1,000

Depends on what you want. Rebel XT is less than $600 after rebate.

I believe you will find most dSLR will have a shutter speed as long as you like in bulb mode.

I'm sorry Hank, this is nothing against you--
But How many threads can we have about new DSLR's?
Like I said this is nothing against Hank, I'm sure he is just looking for an answer, but these topics pop up daily-- and your always gonna get 50 different opinions, some will love canon, other will love Nikon-- etc, etc..
Just do some research-- Look at reviews at dpreview.com-- test out camera's, your not gonna find the answer by just posting what should I buy--
Sorry for the rant--

I've got an Olympus Evolt E-500 for sale. 2 Kit lenses, 2 batteries with charger, and wireless remote. All for $800.

Send me a note if you're interested.

How can we help you pick your camera? Is there certain features that you need, or features that you could live without? Are you going to be shooting still life, studio, weddings, sports, photojournalism? How important is build quality? How likely are you to print big ... and by big I mean how often at 20x30 and higher? How important is fast fps, a big buffer, etc..etc...

Sounds like what you need to do is read some reviews and compare featuers.....
