i'm so sorry to hear you're done. whyn ot just take a break and try again in a bit?

however, if you're truly done, how much would you like for the tripod? (i'm in nova scotia, but have connections in ottawa...)

is shipping to the US expensive? If it's regular I might be interested in the 322RC2 head if it's being sold separately from the tripod.

Hey Mike,
I know you mind may already be made up, but... we all go through "creativity cycles"... evidence my recent contribution level :-P
The time will likely come again when you want to express yourself through photography. Not necessarily to please voters, but to please yourself. More than enough reason to keep the equipment around.
Best of luck on whatever direction life and your creative muse takes you; we hope we'll continue to see you around DPC.

Man, don't sweat it Mike. Take a break and some time off photography before selling all your gear.

I also am having a rough go photographically. I had started a photo-a-day project on my b-day in 2005 and kept it up for seven months. Then work (lots of overtime) and the winter blahs crept in. To top it all off, I'm studying my ass off for a huge job interview coming up. Absolutely no time available for photography. I haven't shot or edited anything since early Feb. Getting to the point that I'm forgetting all my PS tricks. Feeling pretty bummed.

But, I know that, when I have a bit more free time, I'll start shooting crappy photos again cuz I like it.

Anyway, hold off on selling yer toys. Just do something else for a while and come back to photography when you feel like it.

Thanks for the kind replies and PM's everyone...

I went from taking photos almost every single day in 2005 to almost no photos so far in 2006. When I say "I'm done" I mean that I'm not planning to pursue my career in photojournalism any further. I am grateful for the work that I was able to do so far but haven't had any desire to do any work professionally for several months.

My 1d is too bulky to use casually so I'm selling it all and lightening the load in hopes that I re-discover my love for visual storytelling by using a camera that I can carry around with me more often.

The nice thing is that lenses don't change much in price so I can always repurchase again in a few months.

what does CAD stand for?

Also, sorry...I've removed my tripod. It's a fantastic tripod that will be expensive to ship and I will probably keep using it eventually.

My apologies.

i have a new panasonic lumix dmc-fz30, with the built in leica lens. and a 1 gig scan disk card. i put it on my christmas list as i wanted something small, but it is too small and i cant get used to shooting with it.

it is a super camera if you like that kind of thing. i shoot with a 10d and would love to trade for something.

Don't give it up yet. I understand how this site can change your photographic drive though since I made that transformation, too. Hopefully in a year or two you will regain an interest and give it another go. It took everything to get me back into photography. My wife insisted I buy a new DSLR and transform our upstairs hall into a gallery. A friend is opening a new lighting store and wants my work on her walls. My wife's boss wants a large print of my disqualified entry in Holy Places and also wants me to shoot some food for the new restaurant. I value the opinions of the people closest to me, not those of people I've never met. You've got some talent. Use it.

I should also clarify that dpc has nothing to do with this...dpc got me started with my Canon A40 two and a half years ago but over the last 6 months I've spent very little time here. Maybe I'll pull out that A40 once again and enter a challenge just for kicks.

I promise this will be pretty much my only bump. Thx.

I'm sorry to hear the professional side isn't working out for you - whilst many often suggest that the best career possible is doing that which you love already I'm not sure that's always the case - sometimes having to do what you love but with the restrictions of professional requirements can quickly turn it from something you love into a real chore.

Best of luck in refinding your true passion for the art.

And, oh my god, those prices are tempting but it just doesn't make sense for me to buy goods privately from that far - if anything happens to them in transit it ain't your fault and the courier won't refund so... too risky!
