I have had a decent month, earning a little extra money, and I decided to purchase a gift membership for a yet-to-be-determined recipient. The gift membership is in my hands, I just need a recipient.

I'd like to give the membership to someone who's young and very active on the site, whose work shows evidence of a drive to improve. Any nominations come to mind? You may nominate yourself :-)

Isn't nobody already a member? ;-)

And yes, Robert, this is a great gesture... but no surprise considering the source :-)

Why don't you buy someone a lens?

Rob I think that this is a wonderful idea, I would like to nominate ShadowVengance. I spent Saturday at the Toronto get together and witnessed a very eager upcoming photographer with alot of talent. He is a good friend of Joey Lawrence and I over heard them talking that he wished he could become a member.

Well... my first response was going to be "Me, me, MEEE!"

but really I think you should give it to Amandalore instead.

Yes, but she's up for renewal...and I didn't see a stipulation that the individual only be registered.

Well, in that case, she has my vote, too!

You're young compared to Bear...maybe that's enough.

I feel like helping a student out. I remember being a starving student. So much I wanted to do :-)

One of the proposed "candidates" has been here for a year, entered 9 challenges, cast one vote, and posted to forums 18 times. I'm specifically looking for younger members who are committed to photographic growth and who are active participants in the DPC community.

I didn't notice he did that.... but nothing against myself, I wouldn't nominate myself, I think I will do just fine as a user and by the time I can afford membership, I will be a lot better with the whole photography thing. I'm sure there are a lot of other young people on this site who are able to put more effort into photography right now. me, I'm just trying to get through school, and I'm putting most my effort into that. Thanx count though...

edit to add: although starving student fits me perfectly... lol, however, a membership couldn't feed me

Don't worry, I was just kidding :) I totally agree with your aim!

Krytawas very very dissapointed that the photo he took for the DPC Cinema challenge was for members only. He's been saving his allowance up dilligently but didn't make it in time for this one...

(For the record, it was a REALLY good photo for him too once I saw it....)

I nominate svt_gEEk. He's my roommate in college and a poor starving fool like me. He's participated in 3 challenges so far, one of them still running. No kidding, he's currently sitting here eating out of a can of raisins for lunch. He's poo. So poo he can't afford the "r" that goes on the end of the word. He's been shooting with his parent's powershot, but he only has access to it at certain times since he's away at school. He's in the process of trying to decide what camera to buy and is debating between high-end point and shoot or low-end dslr. So when he gets his new camera it would be awesome if he had a membership to go along with it to show off his mad skrillz. Anyway, that's my nomination. :D

Put me on the waiting list too. :)) I'm young, university student, I study photography and photoshop(on my own) and I love DPC(because it helped me to improve my skills a lot). But seriously, you should do a research to find somebody who really deserves this honor. ;)

Dont be mean - increase his allowance!!

:-)

What a lovely gesture, Robert!

Here are some younger DPCers that spring to mind, some of whom I only realised were so young when I saw there names in the Under 21's thread recently - I've included some who have memberships as I can't work out when they expire/ whether they expire soon...

I would nominate my cybernephew, Konador, but he receives membership in exchange for his SC duties so he doesn't need one. Still, I'm including him here anyway because I want to highlight the fact that he's the most active, committed and all-round-nice DPC student I know.

Others:
Justin Hewlitt
Ben Fox
Gloda
Nico_blue
Kyebosh
elsapo
GI Joe
Ennil
zoomdak
Rebs138

I tried to list people who have entered challenges, posted in forums and generally participated in the community here.

I would have lent him the last 10 bucks if I had known he had a photo to give, but I didn't until yesterday morning when I found it on the CF card and asked him about it. He's heard me complaining about the cost of gas and how tight things are right now, so he didn't even ask. He figured I had enough on my mind without trying to come up with the last ten bucks he needed. To HIM, ten bucks is a LOT of cash. lol

I swear I'm not a mean mommy. :/ He's loving photography though, and while hes not really a student on his own - his one true desire is to have his OWN digital camera with a megapixel thats worth something. This would make his entire year. :)

Edit - Oh, and I don't let him on the forums to post unless I'm reading over his shoulder. So its my lack of time rather than his desire to participate. LOL
