My 18th birthday is tomorrow but I'm not as happy as I should be. See, I wanted a Canon Rebel xt, which in my town is $754. The worry is that my Mom and Dad hinted to me that it will probably be the most expensive gift they ever gave me, SO if they did buy it, the Canon would probably be my only present AND it would be counted as a graduation present as well. But just an hour ago when I was with my mom, secretly, she told me my present was already bought, and she also gave me hints about it.
Hints="It's half the price of what you want." "We think that you'll like it" "you've hinted to us about it"

I wanted a Rebal! This is gunna be an interesting birthday. I have no idea what there gunna get me! I hope it's not an ipod.

I would encourage you to look on the bright side of things.

Getting an ipod given to you is not the worst thing in the world.

first off, count your blessing that you have parents that are willing (and able) to spend that much on your birthday, damn even an Ipod is more than some can even dream of getting...

second, maybe they're pulling your leg to throw you off...

and third the xt is about 1/2 the price you list on this website so it is quite possible that you are getting your cake and gonna get to shoot it too.

oh and happy birthday...I'll be double that plus one next week.

Times have really changed. Way back when, turning 18 meant you could give away your fake ID, and you could have cared less about any present except who was buying you drinks.

I got my first SLR - pentax k1000 for my 18th (I still have it and use it occasionally). It wasn't the most expensive, but was a great way to start a lifelong hobby.

Enjoy what you receive, appreciate your parents for loving you and giving you what they can and what they feel appropriate.

It is better to give than to receive - by all means be gracious.

And happy birthday! I'll be twice your age with 9 to spare later this week.

happy 18th!

I'd be happy with what I get. Course the way I grew up I had to pay for things like that myself and I wasn't looking at 800 dollar cameras at 18 years old lol. I was looking at pianos and piano music and I worked to pay for it- I started working at 17 and saved every dime I made.

Even if it's not what You REALLY want, be happy. Some kids don't get anything.

Happy Birthday. Sounds like whatever your parents have gotten for a gift is going to be wonderful. My mom never spent over $50 for any single gift we got on our birthdays. The gift really isnt the important thing though - it's that you are loved, thought of, and cared about on this day and everyday. Relax and enjoy.

At 18, you should be grateful for anything more than a kick to the curb. :P

Today is my 33rd birthday and all I got was a letter from the IRS telling me how much I owe them. (and apparently some sour grapes too)

Happy Birthday! ;)

Maybe he can't hear us, because he's jamming on his iPod. Orrrr he's out putting shutter actuations on his new toy.
