Hi :)

Just wondering... do photos taken during the evening twilight hour count as being taken "after the sun goes down"?

Thanks

Methinks you'll get as many asnswers to this as there are shades of twilight. The more toward true night the lighting is, the fewer voters will be likely to regard it as DNMC. It's your call!

"Nautical Twilight" is a magical time. That's all I'm gonna say :-)

Based on previous challenges, your photo doesn't even have to be taken at night, you just have to fool the voters into thinking it was.

Grrrrrrrrr!

Nothing in Wisconsin :-)
Harbor Scenes. Clouds over the water just past sunset. Blue moonlight on the beach surt. etc

Googled it: Nautical twilight is defined to begin in the morning, and to end in the evening, when the center of the sun is geometrically 12 degrees below the horizon. At the beginning or end of nautical twilight, under good atmospheric conditions and in the absence of other illumination, general outlines of ground objects may be distinguishable, but detailed outdoor operations are not possible, and the horizon is indistinct.

The Wikipedia entry has a wealth of good information on the definitions of Civil, Nautical, and Astronomical Twilight. These are scientific terms with very specific definitions.

That would mean there are two periods of nautical twilight, wouldn't it?

Unless it's continual...based on that definition it starts in the morning and ends at night. There's a lot of daylight in-between. ;^)
