We have a few NZ members don't we? It's 12.17 am here in Thailand so it must be later in NZ - they must be in bed and know nothing.

Alaska, says the south Pacific quake near Tonga will NOT generate a

It's 3.25 m here in Australia so it's 5.25 am in NZ, couldn't find any info about the East Coast of Australia, didn't understand that link.

OK just had a better look at the maps, the Pacific Islands look they will be worst hit, Fiji, Vanuatu and Solomon islands.

5.42 here in NZ vaguely heard something on the radio but thought it was related to pacific islands not us YIKES!
Up early cause i heard last night that my daughters Pippin leader died a woman in her thirties who just got married and has kids. Woke up early just could'nt stop thinking about it and now this "(

Good, seems like they are downgrading it from a warning to an advisory.

AP-Pacific-Quake URGENT

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) - Concerns about a tsunami in the
aftermath of a powerful South Pacific quake have eased. An official
in New Zealand reports ocean-monitoring devices haven't detected
any signs of a tsunami. And the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center is
canceling its tsunami warning.
