Hallo everybody

I am relatively new to this site. This is my first thread. Entered the negative challenge. Score is close to 5 (4,9something). Is this very bad?

Hi Juanette,
Welcome to the madhouse that is DPC! You'll like the community here, I think.
No, a 5.0 is not very bad. To put in perspective, the very best images usually rate in the 7.X range. a 5 is very average. You'll learn much more from comments than from scores. I guarantee that if you hang out here and participate in challenges, you'll be amazed at how much you learn, and how your photography improves.

Yes....you will get sucked into the madness before you know it! I hope you have lots of free time in your schedule, because it will surely get soaked up participating in this site...because between voting, and commenting, and checking your profile, and the forums, and learning, and browsing the wonderful photos, oh and lets not forget actually taking and editing the pictures...you will not have a drop of time left :-)

And yes that is a very good start to your run here at DPC.

Enjoy!

Thanx alot - I think I will enjoy it here. Not always time to go take photos. Post editing is new to me. I am used to to a film camera, take the shot, have it developed, look at it and put it in a box.

Digital is new to me. Must say I like it.

Another comment - some people on this site are EXTREMELY TALENTED. Bow in honour to these people. How did they do it?

Post editing is a whole area of knowledge unto itself. The beauty of digital is that you are free to work with an image to bring it to your vision of what the finished product should be. Can include everything from a very faithful reproduction of the "as seen" image to very significant artistic interpretations.
There are a large number of ver talented photogs on the site. The wonderful thing is, it rubs off! You will surely learn a lot of the techniques, and eventually you'll find that you are pulling off images that you would never have thought you could do.
