Desolation is the first challenge for a while that's inspired me to vote on every entry. I'm also commenting on more entries than usual. I usually comment about 30 - 40 in an open challenge but am likely to exceed that in this one.

I've decided to include the vote I'm giving in the comments I leave.

Which means that people who don't like the vote I give them may decide that my comment is of no value either.

I hope you won't feel that way and if I hurt your feelings, I apologise here.

I'm doing my best to be honest about how I feel about the images, good or bad, though trying also to be polite in how I phrase things. But negative opinions are never nice to read...

That said, I've found a lot of great things to say too!

My voting scale is in my profile so if you get a 6 and wonder what that means on my scale you can go check it out.

Or you can just curse me a lot and go on your merry ways!

kavey, your voting scale is exactly like mine except for one minor difference,
for a 3 I also have "I would have rated this 8,9 or 10 if it was in a challenge that wass related to the subject"

Kavey,

In the spirit of learning, I commend you. Maybe they can add a profile item we could check that would allow others to see the votes we gave them.

Your courage and honesty is amazing,

Harold

Anyway, people really shouldnt be taking comments to the heart, but just try to improve. And if they think the comments are naff and not true... F@#* 'em. =)

I like it when people include their scores in the comment. I do it sometimes but I dont know if its a good thing to do cause some people could be offended. But I like it And thanks for you comment Kavey :)

You're welcome and thanks folks...
And not a single negative PM from the 74 comments.
I will try and comment more of the lower scorers, I did the 2s and 3s and a couple of the 4s plus all the 7s to 10s and some 6s.
Ran out of steam!
:o)
Thanks for the encouragement!

i'm not a big fan of leaving my score in my comment. then if the photographer disagrees with my scoring, they can email me and send me hate mail, or could email me and try and explain the photo. sometimes it would be too tempting to go back in there and either raise or lower their score based on the correspondence, and that's unfair to everyone else i have voted on.

i wouldn't mind, however, everyone being able to see who gave what score after the challenge voting is over. just imo.

I've left scores with comments for a couple of months now, and not had any complaints about it. I would certainly like to know a score along with a comment, but not a score with no comment which always leaves me wanting to know more about what went into that score.

I don't like rude mails but I only got one!

I am in two minds about leaving a score but I have been open with my voting methods and stand by the votes I give so I don't mind sharing.

Sometimes I feel like doing so, other times I only do so when asked.

I don't feel pressure to change the vote based on discussion unless a discussion genuinely turns around how I see and evaluate an individual image. Usually, I see it differently but stick with the vote initially given.
