I know this has been brought up before in the past. If it hasn’t I will be shocked.
Below our username and little M/F/?/SC/ADMIN icon and Camera I would like to see a small image around 50 x 50 pixels that we can put our photograph or any other JPG or Gif image. I always thought it would be a good idea but now that the WPL is going on and a lot of the participants are putting there log in there signature area it is easy to find their post in a forum because you remember that little icon.
Take this thread for instance and find Bear_Music post first by his name in the left column.

Now try to find his post by this Icon in his signature (same thread). As you can see the icon makes it easier.

Anyone think this is a good Idea?

why don't you just put it in your signature? Seems to be easy enought to find the posts you speak of in that way....

Most forums have the option to "view all posts" for a particular member. Would be nice to have that here if just to find my own posts. Or better yet have a search function that works!

IMHO, I think its easy to find Bear's icon now because not many members have one.

If everyone had one, think of how hard it would be to single out one specific icon. I think most people would end up reverting back to the names, which is where we are at now.

Again, just my opinion. :-)

OK what about this. DPC auto loads your latest portfolio picture under your name in the forms @ 120x90 or 90x120. That way we can multitask in the forums. when we see a picture we would like to comment on we could click on it and comment. May reduce the amount of CC request in the forums. This way the person is not asking for one but would welcome a comment if a reader of the forums would like to comment.

Maybe they can random pictures from your portfolio with each post.

On the old DPC it used to do that (or at least have the title of your latest entry), but for some reason, in DPC2 the feature was removed. The option did remain in My Preferences for a while with a "Coming Soon" tag, but then that was removed too :( It's one thing I'd like to definately see back!

No GIF please -- animation is far too distracting.

I like the idea of avatars -- they add a bit of personality to the person posting that isn't readily apparent otherwise. It takes reading many, many posts by the same person to get to know anything at all about their personality -- and even then I have to relate the posts to the same person. Just like all the people I pass by day to day, there are too many that pass under the radar and I never get a chance to know anything about what kind of person they are. An avatar is a chance for that person to give their posts a punch of personality in a very visual way. We are a visually minded community after all, aren't we.

Along with small avatars, the usual list of features
- a preference option to turn them off if desired.
- auto-hide if the post is not vertically larger than the avatar (same for sigs, please).
- a preference option to substitute one still frame from any animation, if allowed at all (this goes for smilies as well if we ever get those).
- option to add a user supplied URL to make the avatar clickable (we already have names linked to profiles).
- hide avatar if user has choosen to not see other's (same for sigs, please).
- and so on.

Avatars bring with them a great opportunity to enhance the sense of familiarity within the community -- with very little to against them if implemented with the above suggestions.

This I like, there are far too many images being added to portfolios that I don't get wind of for a long while. Just be sure to add the option on the image page to add to the rotation or not. Many add images that are only used in one forum thread (for instance).

avatars may be nice, but I still hoped we could use emoticons on forums, like this

I like the idea of avatars. It would help people see that I am really a friendly, happy, non-violent type of person if I could express that visually.

Devil's Advocate is more like it.
Just look at the people you mix around with! ;)
