I haven't taken any pictures in over 6 months. Somewhere along the line I have lost my motivation, and lack inspiration. Has this happened to anyone else and hoe do I overcome this??

Yes...a number of times.

Usually when I try to take photographs "like" someone elses, or try to pander to a style that isn't my own....thats a muse killer !

The trick is to be brave and honest enough to back your own judgement...and simply relax without the pressure of trying to conform to a standardised quality quotient.

Just don't try too hard to find it, and let it come and find you !

Thanks a lot. I think I will go back to carrying my camera with me at all times.

I would like to suggest trying to find something to challenge you. Starting a photo-a-day is one good thing. I discovered, soon after starting, that I was looking out for a photo opportunity much more often, as I found myself wanting to avoid putting too many samey shots into the gallery. Perhaps try some of the exercises in Freeman Patterson's books. Perhaps look out for some PhotoShop tutorials on the web and look to take photos specificallly to apply some post-processing effects to. Take the photos for your own enjoyment and pay less heed to the challenges here. I've had a hoot shooting recently (particularly for the 30-day self portrait challenge) and, prior to all this, was really in the doldrums for some time.

I hope that you have fun, as that's the most important part for me.

I go for a change of venue. Shoot someplace entirely new, or shoot a style that is unfamiliar.

Honestly, I think it depends on the person, because getting into a photo-a-day thing for 30 days or a year sounds like drudgery to me. My preference is to have my camera with me all the time and shoot when the opportunity strikes. You might guess I am not one to have the patience for time consuming studio setup type shots - but I truly respect those who do this kind of thing, it just isn't for me.

I can see where challenging yourself to shoot something daily for a length of time could push someone to think out of the box and look for inspiration in places they previously didn't, it just doesn't sound like something I would enjoy - too not my style.

Not shooting for 6 months is totally foreign to me, I try daily to see interest in things other people pass over as ordinary or hidden in plain sight.

I have found that buying a new camera re-invigorates me!

(3 new DSLRs cameras in 3 years - you just know there's some truth to it!)

thanks all. I will take this all in. I am thinking about maybe taking a photography course at the art college, and see where that takes me.

ha! I wish I could get a new dslr! I have had to sell my telephoto and my digi light kit in the last few weeks. Oh well easy come easy go, the easy come again.
