I doubt if a true negative image will win, such as the kind you get with black and white. I think people are still going to vote on the aesthetics and how much it looks like a photo. I looked at a swan negative posted in another thread, and I think that one would not do very well because it looked like, well, a negative. Voting will not be good on this one because we are not used to looking at odd colored subjects. Anyway, let me give you a hint. Try a few images with piles of rocks and dirt. Not a very attractive photo, but as a negative it actually looks pretty good. It will be the unlikely subject that will win, only because our ordinary view of attractive doesn't work in negative format.

i thought of a great idea the other day...but that usually means it will do poorly.

It will not be mine. My batteries died and I have no money till payday. Total bummage.

Curious if the term "negative" will be open for interpretation, ie. something unhappy or the use of negative space. I'm sure someone will address it. Time will tell. Or will it?

Yes. Shane.

Too bad...I have a Gazillion of AA and AAA batteries left over from that freak hurricane last year. I wish I could send you some.

I'm sure you will get different kinds of entries. However, going back to the "2 Second Exposure" challenge...two of the three ribbon winners did not use 2 sec exposure and everyone overlooked it.

I'll vote on the quality of the shot. If it is "negative space" or "negative numbers" or whatever...If there is something negative in it, I'll give it a chance.

:) Thanks for the offer!! However, I wouldn't want anyone to have to pay postage for the weight of batteries. I'll just enter next weeks and kick total butt!!!! :)

The shot I put in is more abstract than anything else, and I wouldn't be surprised if an abstract is what takes it. Just about anything else would just look like a basic photo negative. The trick is to do something special with it to make it work well as a stand-alone image.

uh-oh mines pretty abstract too! Hope we didnt have the same idea! lol i love mine though. hope it scores well. good luck on yours

Mine will get scores of 3 or less OR 8 and above. You'll love it or hate it, some will say it is perfect for this challenge and some will says "does not meet challenge". ...I'm ready....

I'm right there with ya kenskid. I think the whole challenge is going to be like this. There are going to be a lot of low scores and some really high ones.

I like mine a lot, but we'll see. It could easily bomb.

I'm scared. I really like mine which is not a good sign.

My wife just looked at her entry from her work computer and her monitor presented it in a fairly different light. I am wondering how much improperly calibrated monitors will affect votes.

I'm in the same boat with you. I think mine looks pretty cool, so that probably is a strong indication the voters will hate it. Oh well.

I think just about every one I submit is really good. And then the votes start coming in. A few non-DPC people think it's really good and actually made some good observations. I would actually make this my Windows wallpaper, but the cute pic of my daughter wins out...

Pfff...I'm in too. I think it's a good photo, composition wise and the quality isn't that bad either, but who am I to judge LOL
Probably will get hammered over something anyway.

I think this challenge is going to be more subjective than most, because we won't be looking at one single straight-forward photo. That takes away a lot of the usual judging criteria and reduces it to a simple love/hate vote more according to taste than technical merit. I also think this is going to be a wide-open challenge, because the usual composition rules are not going to apply. You very easily can take a good photo that makes a bad negative, but to shoot a photo that makes a good negative you're essentially shooting blind. I can't wait to see how it all turns out!

Y'all can go ahead and enter if you like, but one of those ribbons is mine... I think I finally have a shot to redeem myself from my dismal showings of late, so watch out! ;-P

I had my shot on Day 2 and I am not (I repeat NOT) going to change my mind again (like I've mistakenly done in the past). This one's a winner and it won't be like anyone else's shot either.
