I would love to know who and why give this picture a "1" //www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=29876

I only give "1" if the picture don't meet the challenge and is out of focus, bad exposure and bad composition so don't know how this got 6 "1"'s
08/09/2003 01:24:10 AM · #2
The picture is great. Beautiful colors. Composition is very good.Only reason I think someone would give it a "1" is if they were trying to push the "back" and accidentally hit "1". LOL. I wouldn't be surpised if this happens.

maybe they could never solve the cube, and they are still bitter

I thought the picture had terrific coloring and composition. A 7 in my book. Most others agreed giving it an 18th place. I wish....

Same goes for "10's" when you want to advance to the next page.
08/09/2003 01:28:34 AM · #7
Sorry to hear that. I personally gave it a 7. Perhaps the anti-idiot vote counting machine needs some fine-tuning.

And if you want to go a page further, you may notice that the overall voting is MORE towards 10 then it does towards 1, so your arguement holds no water. :) Ideally there should be less 1's then 10's.

The high number of 1's is bogus, I agree with you agwright. Another reason to add a mechanism to cancel out "off the wall" votes like this. Just analyze the overall voting pattern and disregard arrant votes like this.

I'm not saying that the "10's" for this photo was all done by mistake. Just pointing out that some bad pictures will actually get a "10" when they definitely should not.
The scores with a helpful or comment should be the only ones counted, so there would not be any mistakes.

There were six 1s because 6 people didn't like the image. It's a matter of taste and every voter has a right to their opinion.

That said, I didn't vote on trends, but I would likely haven given it a 6 or 7... Maybe an 8... You meet the challenge, the composition was alright, but a little uninspiring, and the colors were a little dull. Try kicking up the saturation a little.
08/09/2003 03:16:14 AM · #11
I was just reading through some of the comments made and I saw this one
"this is a fad not a trend"
So maybe the 6 people that voted this a '1', all felt the same way and thus didn't think it met the challenge
08/09/2003 03:19:17 AM · #12
I found with the trends that some people had hard time realizing what a trend is. I got some replys that my image (a yo-yo) was a "fad" (whatever that means) and therefore it got 1 or 2 from that voter. If it was a fad, than why is my kid still playing with a Yo-Yo these days.

For your cube, I gave you 7.

ozdick, what a coencidence, that we both thought about the same reason in the same time :-)))

Can someone tell me what a "fad" is ??

An example:
Discussing dismal scores in Right Angle challenge = Fad
Discussing dismal scores in Trends challenge = Trend

:0)

People are too finicky about interpretation here...

For my trend pic I got 13 1's 8 2's18 9's and 9 10's also 3 people marked it as a favorite.....

Just goes to show ya ya can't please all of the people all of the time.

Did you like the pic???? Of course. so shoot for your audience and screw the troll voters.....

Just for your own sanity look at some of your favorites and see how many 1's they got...

For that mater look at the winners and see how many 1's they received.

Check out this photo.... //www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=2892 one of the coolest I've ever seen anywhere, and the forth highest rated on this site...

7 1's....

who were these 7 ignorant people

Be cool and stay strong

People arent idiot, stupid, ignorant, whatever you want to call it, just because they have a different opinion to the majority. Perhaps they use a different voting scale, maybe just 1 2 and 3? You just don't know, so it would perhaps be nice if the name-calling would stop.

Rubick's Cube. First thing I'm thinking: some people feel it's overdone so they automatically give out 1s. Sad but true. Everyone has their own way of voting, I guess
08/09/2003 07:57:24 AM · #18
My goal is simple - no ones. If I can get through a challenge with no ones then I feel more validated than I do when I get eight tens. The LOGIC? It's easy for most to rate a photo high but difficult for the picky, literal-minded to resist giving ones. By avoiding ones it means I have - without fail - met the challenge. If the photo scored below a six overall then it's time to concentrate on taking a better photo of the subject.

I loved your picture, I gave it an 8 which was extremely high for me in this challenge. If I remember correctly I gave 1 or 2 10's and 5 or 6 9's so you were on the top of my list. 8 to me = good quality picture, great color and/or contrast, and a medium-high creativity level. You probably would have scored higer if there hadn't been so many cubes in the challenge :-D Part of having creativity is thinking of something that no one else does!

I thought it was a really fine shot.. 7 from me.

I didn't give you a 1, but I can see why someone did. I don't want to hurt your feelings but it lacks the "wow factor" talked about so much. The thing it is sitting on doesn't match with the cube at all and the lighting just isn't dramatic. It actually seems to be a bit to dark. I honestly don't see how someone would even give you a 6 or 7.
Go ahead and hate me now for being honest.

I can still solve the cube in about 90 seconds (honestly!). I have mine sitting beside me at work -- the same original one I had from the 80s! Ah, the memories.

PS -- I gave the shot a 7.
08/09/2003 09:04:36 AM · #23
I gave it an 8.
08/09/2003 09:40:27 AM · #24
I wonder if you would need to criticize the people that gave it a 10? Ive seen some bad pictures (in my opinion) get a few 10s but hey, they liked the picture. Same goes for the people that give 1s, they just don’t like the picture. There is no point getting cut up over it.
08/09/2003 09:44:51 AM · #25
maybe if you had changed the stickers on each side of the cube it would do better...

on one side, 9 mini-images of a cute baby.

side 2: a kitten

side 3: flower macro

etc...

you'd have had a winner then.
