I have a rebel and rebel xt. With my rebel on the large fine setting I am getting resolution of 180. With my XT I have it set to large fine also and I am getting 70. The file size is larger but lower res. Is there another place to adj setting??
Also, is there a way I can adj the res on the pictures I just took?? |

The resolution is meaningless. All that matters is the number of pixels. So-called resolution-per-inch only comes into play when you are instructing a printer re: size & quality levels, and you adjust it in the "image size" dialogue box in your image editor.

Resolution is dependant on the size you tell the lab or home printer to print the image. It's essentially a simple math formula: Resolution = Dots / Inch or DPI where Dots is the total number of pixels (in one direction).
For example if you have an image with a total image area of 3600px x 2400px and you tell the printer(lab) to print you a 4 x 6 (6 x 4), it will be printed at 600dpi:
Res. = 3600px / 6 in. = 600dpi
Res. = 2400px / 4 in. = 600dpi
This is independant of the printer's (lab) resolution. If one printer has a higher print output resolution than another it merely indicates that it will print each pixel with more dots than the one with the lower print output resolution.
