Yes, because the Children's toy challenge has ended. Its now in voting stage.

The Candid Challenge has begun and is in entry stage.

Hope that helps. :-)

I wouldn't call that a candid shot.

Maybe you are right. From dictionary.com: Candid: Not posed or rehearsed: a candid snapshot.

Would have been a great entry for the Negative Space challenge.

Eep, maybe Candid isn't the best idea for me to try out in my neighborhood. I was walking around (single family homes, typical middle-class people) today and lifted the camera to shoot an elderly woman mailing something and she jerked her head up, ripped off her sunglasses, and hissed at me. :/

..now I kinda wish I'd snapped a shot of her hissing, hehe.

Go to your home page, under challenge history, and find the previous "candid" challenge. it will give you an idea of what they are looking for. I would put the link here if I knew how!! :O)

Hello,
I saw the photographs of the least Candid-Challenge but since english is not my mother-tongue I really don't know what that means... I understand the meaning of the word but not really, what fits into this category.
04/05/2006 10:20:08 AM · #18
it simply means taking a photograph without the othe rperson knowing that you are taking one.

Web Definitions:

A photograph that is not posed. Generally taken without the subject's awareness.

informal or natural; especially caught off guard or unprepared; "a candid photograph"; "a candid interview"

An unposed, spontaneous photograph of a person or group of people.

Anna-Here are a few from my porfolio. The first is one of my best. I love the second one but it would get slammed in a Challenge.

I have my work cut out for me. I haven't entered anything in weeks but I can't pass this one up.

Well first and second have already been claimed by Goodman and Librodo.... we are all fighting for third.

Looking forward to getting out on the streets and snapping away for this. I have always been gun shy with my camera for fear of confrontation, but hopefully this will snap me outta it.

I don't know about the person not knowing part. I think its more that the person either doesn't care about the camera or wasn't aware until the last second. In this shot, the guy is looking right at me but I consider it a candid. He didn't pose, I didn't set it up.

In this one, they appear to be looking at the camera, but they aren't. I also consider it a candid.

In this one, they knew I was taking pictures but chose to ignore me. Another shot I consider a candid.

For me at least, the key is unposed.

Many many candids are unplanned snaps of something that caught your interest. Before you submit one of these, please stop to think if a viewer who wasn't there, and doesn't have you mental context, would also find it interesting. If the answer is "no," suggest you reconsider entering the snap.
