would be nice if you could set up a time lapse system so you don't miss it :)

You could also use a video camcorder and extract the best frames.

My daughter had the same friends in her bedroom this year. She left her room to shower and came back to a butterfly. It happens very fast....

Good Luck,

Harold

Both ideas would be sweet, but y'all are talking champagne to somebody on a beer budget. The FujiFilm 2800Z is all I've got. If I am there when the butterfly emerges (its at work) and I can capture the action, it will be with still shots for quality. Here's an awesome sequence by somebody named Bill B. I hope to see something similar in a few days!

I just borrowed a regular old Hi8 camcorder from a friend. Lots of people have them in their closets and don't use them nearly as often as they thought .... You'd end up with a zillion 640x480 frames on a $5 cassette ....

Whassa matta, Tony? Got roaches or sick of bug shots??? Here's another angle...These shots are hard to get, the bugger's hanging from the roof. Oh, and I'm supposed to be working, too...

Geeze, how can they expect me to work on a day like this? Anyhow, I missed the breakout, but not by much...

Congratulations, it's a Monarch!
Great shots...
I saw this weird butterfly today, looked like a cross between a hummingbird and a butterfly. Turned out there is such a thing called a Hummingbird Moth - take a look.
