Thanks for the link, Kirbic. I missed it somehow.

Very nice images, the 2nd one expecially. Would love to goof a bit in PS with some of those.

I'm sorry, but you simply don't sound grateful enough for seeing this!

Not to boast or anything but this is the second solar eclipse i witnessed :P. I think the first was in '99.

Well, then your complacency at forgetting your lenses deserves my utmost contempt. You have my envy and my pity all at the same time! All I managed to see of this once in a lifetime event when it ocurred in Cornwall in 1999 was, unusually for Britain, a cloudy sky. Hateful.

Well heck, I'm 47 and I've never seen a total solar eclipse. Looks like I'll have a great chance in 2017; only 11 more years to prepare so I have 10 years & some months to procrastinate, LOL.

edit for typo

Your handheld results are astounding. I too am amazed that you didn't plan ahead to photograph this properly. Heck, I've had Aug 21 2017 on my calendar for several years now (next totality in continental US). I'm already planning locations, travel times, etc.!!

There's one in September if you're willing to travel :P

The will is there. The finances, job, and family obligations tend to cancel it out though...

Not about the current eclipse, but check out the view of an eclipse from space at NASA's Earth Observatory site. There's also links on the page to more sites/photos.

All right... who put that big smudge mark on the Earth on August 11, 1999?

Ok... Fess up! Was it you?

Here is a photo of the moon's shadow from yesterday's event, taken from a weather satellite,

and this one from the ISS.
