I was surprised at the finish of these fine images. I scored them quite a bit higher than how they ended up.

77th -
68th -
79th -
84th -

Any surprises in your picks?

I think this is one of those challenges where "hands" need to convey the typical themes (i.e. love, caring, strength, etc.) None of those that you listed do that. My entry (disfigured) is probably the furthest thing to what people wanted to see in a hands image and it showed.

Well, I liked them. ;^) I think I remember yours...wasn't it a bit dark (lighting, not subject)?

I was so robbed! Colorful, fun, clever, brilliant, genius!!........what?
Its the shallow DOF isn't it?

Bah! I'm so misunderstood :P

IMO the voters were 'shooting in the dark'. Even the 2nd place image is out of focus, though excellent otherwise. Couldn't help but notice that the "Voters without cameras" managed to destroy the scores of the best images.
It almost seems that there is a perverse element in the voting population that seeks to undermine the higher quality photographs. I suggest a little statistical analysis be done and voters that consistantly vote below two sigma standard deviation be barred from future voting.

mine was not one of the best, of course :) but:

Place: 95 out of 281
Avg (all users): 5.335
Avg (commenters): 6.000
Avg (camera): 5.420
Avg (no camera): 3.727

interesting :)

I really liked this because of the unique perspective, the good use of lighting, the tones, the texture, and how it captures the "essence" of the hands of a working man. I think it was way under rated.

I was so sad not seeing this one at the top, really thought it was good. Yes, probably the DOF.

(Edit grammar)

Sorry for you, Cindi. I had it in my personal Top 5. And yes, it's the shallow DOF.

I had thought this one would have scored higher but I guess my problem too was lack of DOF. I intentionally chose a shallow DOF but it was probably the wrong choice.

One of the comments I received said: "Bad taste". I was a little surprised but suppose this shot could offend someone.

Perhaps he is lactate intolerant.

LOL - maybe you're right. Maybe the commenter simply made the statement that mothers milk tastes bad - possibly a bad childhood memory! :)

But seriously - I do respect all commenters for the comments they are leaving. We're all different and different things pleases our eyes. I was only a bit surprised.

One of the most poignant images in the challenge - I left a comment during voting. It is beauty in it's purest form.

"Bad Taste" - maybe he's never tasted or smelled formula - that is BAD taste !

I had these two picked a bit higher than they finished also...(in addition to the ones I posted earlier).

TY, Oliver and you too, GuGi. I still like the shot. I love the shallow DOF. Was afraid the voters wouldn't agree and I was right. Oh well ...lets see how the stock community feel about it! heheee

Ditto! I don't understand how anyone could think this was in bad taste....well...maybe a teenager...but we were all 'grossed out' in our teens :)

Thanks guys for pointing out my pic :o) I liked it too. I'll note why it didn't do better, which I knew going in.

Fingernails are not perfect on the polish, sort of disctracting, especially to 50% of the population.

Highlights are blown on the left.

Hands are not sharp enough, and the ring is really not in focus at all if you look close.

This is a hands challenge, and I got caught up in the great moment and emotion that were expressed in my wife's eyes. (edit: which have bad catchlighting)

Thanks though! :D

They're from "Glovables", and thanks, I love them too. I mean if you MUST do the cleaning.... why not look stylin?? :-)~

This should have ribboned if you ask me. Not that 7th place isn't bad and the photos above it aren't great, this is just the best of the challenge in my opinion.

I thought this one was great too, I'd put it in the top 10.
