I can't believe the following lovely abstract finished at the very bottom of the heap with a 4.4; I can see it not finishing near the top, it's not to everyone's taste, but nearly LAST? Come on! This is a lovely and interesting abstract.

I think this should have been at least a top 20

I have to agree with Bear, that is a great abstract. It's a shame that it did so poorly, especially since it was a nice departure from all the usual, expected long-exposure shots.

That's the way I feel. Lovely and sensuous, maybe a little blown-out on the brights, but NOT anything near a last-place image.

I gave it a 6. Definitely deserved better than it got. I like the dreamy colors too!

No offense to the photog but I can't say I really like it at all. It almost looks like a tv/monitor in the bg...like they shook the camera around and snapped. Don't get me wrong, I love abstract...Neil's (nshapiro) for example, are top notch, well thought out, and pleasing to my eye.

I didn't vote but I probably would have given it a 4 as well...possibly a 3.

I don't get it. Guess it's not my cup of tea, but to me it's a blurry jumbled up mess of color. I thought when I first saw it that it was a younger members first entry or something.

Nothing about this appealled to me. Even with abstracts i still need somewhere to lay my eyes down and this provided me with nothing. Just goes to show that thinking outside the box is not always rewarded on this site.

Even with an abstract I still like to be given an idea what to think about. Perhaps that is just me. I did not get guidance from the photographer at all in this one, otherwise I'd have voted it higher.

It comforts me to see that some others went down the same path as I did for this challenge, and unfortunately ended up near the bottom with me :-(

If it makes you feel better, I gave yours a 6 as well. :)

That does make me feel better :-P

...actually, I knew going in that the shot was likely not to do well. I really dig abstracts, but I do feel there is a fine line between great and garbage. And different people will for sure draw that line in different places :-)

on a side note though, I considered titling it '2 Second Abstract'. Anyone think that that would of made any difference in their vote?

I saw that one Bear, and wondered how that finished so low, it was better than mine at least. (which apparently isn't saying much)

I usually ignore titles when voting,. I do like the one you gave it in the challenge better.

"Passion's End" got a 7 from me. The title helped move it from 6. Very well done, tater. I had not realized that this, too, was so far down; I stumbled upon the other by happenstance I was cruising and said "no way!"...

I extend the same comment to yours; you were robbed.

I can understand these images finishing middle of the pack; I wouldn't expect a true "blurred abstract" ever to ribbon in a regular challenge, but to see these symphonies of color in the bottom of the heap really pains me.

I gave a 7 to Grahve's and an 8 to taterbug's. Both are lovely.

and while we're at it, I scored this one an 8 as well:

thank you Stdavidson, posthumous and Bear :-)
that's good to know!

I'll probably be stubborn though and still enter the occasional shot like this in the future though :-) Just a glutton for punishment, I tell ya :-P

well that was one of my 10's :)

Thank you Kivet and posthumous. It's nice to know somebody liked my Chihuly Nubula [sic]. Interesting that the three "astronomical" abstracts clustered together.

I really appreciate your and others thoughts on this. I am a new member and this was my first abstract. I was keen to enter as the 2 second rule gave me a new challenge (very disappointing to see that one of the winners didn't stick to this!) and I was pleased with the results and a little disappointed with the scores.

I was getting a little dispondent but you have re-ignited my enthusiasm.

Strangely my first picture is my best scorer so far but I am learning so much from comments like this that I am confident of a top 10% before the end of the year (a low goal to some but you have to start somewhere).

Thanks again to everyone - positive and "constructive". This means a lot to a "part timer" like me.
