I had to laugh as the comments started coming in for the literary challenge. I don't mind the score since I messed up on the title- Should have been "The White Alligator" (a book) instead of "Albino Alligator" a movie. Doh.

There are @ 40 Albino Alligators TOTAL in the world, and my submission was a picture of one of the largest. They do not live long in the wild since they cannot hide or stalk very well, cannot take direct exposure from the sun and usually end up blind. The picture I submitted is not over-exposed or "flashed." Check out this incredible animal on the www.birminghamzoo.com website.

Thanks for letting me vent a bit!

Well, just consider yourself an educator! I too am surprised that some would assume that the color of the alligator was due to flash, but the "hot" areas on the head probably added to that perception.
I wasn't aware that albino alligoatrs were so rare, so you've educated me a bit as well. I'm used to seeing albino reptiles since they're often bred for that trait.

Thanks for the link Faidoi. I would appreciate any tips for taking a better picture of this creature. It will have to be through glass and while the alligator is underwater in an outdoor exhibit (Bad glare). Thanks so much!

Those were some pretty ignorant comments. It doesn't look like bad exposure at all.

I believe that DPC voters are no more literate or illiterate than the public at large. Some of us are so literally perseverate that we read encyclopedias, while others can barely write their name, two extremes and most fall somewhere in between. Considering that many voters cast their votes based on their opinion of how well an entry 'meets the challenge', it is ironic that those voters on the low end of the literacy scale believe themselves to be as qualified to judge this challenge as anyone else.
In the 'sad but true' department, many of todays young people are more enthused about 'reality tv' shows than the current best seller list. It is a sign of the times and a disturbing one at that!
"Cheer up, things could be worse. So I cheered up and sure enough...".

Don't despair, there is hope yet. Mankind has always been pessimistic about the youth of the time and what the future might hold for those so 'shallow and ignorant'. But society not only survives but continues to thrive and progress!
