I'm upgrading. I got nervous when I went from my point and shoot to the 300D and now I'm upgrading to a 20D and I'm nervous again... and excited. It should be here Friday!

Is there going to be much of a learning curve from the 300D to the 20D?

Will all lenses for the 300D work well on the 20D too?

Is there another lens I absolutely HAVE to have for this camera?

Will I wake up Saturday morning a great photographer and win lots of ribbons?

Someone please tell me this is a good thing :)

Thanks

Faye

It is a great upgrade! I, too, upgraded from the 300d. There is not much of a learning curve at all. I still prefer how the buttons on the 300d were laid out, but the 20d is ok too.

All your lenses should work just fine :) Enjoy your new toy!!!

• It's a huge learning curve. You're never gonna make it.

• I've never seen a great photographer decorated with ribbons.

• 300D lenses won't fit a 20D. They look outright cheap on a 20D and rattle in the slightest breeze.

You're going to be SOOO happy with the 20D! Hard to say what lens you might need when we don't know what lenses you have now, and what you'd like to shoot.

There is ALWAYS another lens that you absolutely HAVE to have. ALWAYS.

I do a lot of wildlife shots. I have a canon 75-300 I use mostly but that is a slow lens and I'm thinking a might need a faster one for my faster camera?

i upgraded from my 300D to a 20 last week :D

its a dream to use, the buttons, dials are much better thought out on the 20.. the ability to lock the apature as well is gr8, stops u from accidentily twiddling the dial with ur thumb when shooting :)

everything is faster!

my first shots with the 20D on my really cheap 70-300 with 2x converter ;) so want some L glass! (or a bigma ;))

300D to 20D is basically no learning curve at all. A little control-shock to overcome, but the 20D has much better control setup when you get used to it. The main thing you need to learn, IMO, is that now you can
safely" use higher ISO without fear of excessive noise levels. 800 is better noise than 100 on the 300D IMO.

I upgraded from the 300 to the 20D, The 30D sounds much the same, youll find its much the same to use as the 300D, but after a day or so of playing around with it you wont be able to go back. The first thing i noticed was how fast and easy it is to do everything, all of the controls are at your fingertips. The only time you have to take your eye off the viewfinder is to change the ISO but that problems fixed on the 30D.

Lenses you must get hmmm.... 2 of all the 'L' series thats 1 for you 1 for me :)

Estimated date of delivery is tomorrow, but if it doesn't come tomorrow I'll have to wait aaaaaall the way till Monday and thats gonna kill me.

Thanks for all the good advice.

Very good point, Robert,

This was shot handheld at ISO800, in fairly poor light.
