I was locked out of my apartment last night until submission time was over for the garden challenge. Next time I'll bring my keys.

Anyway, here's what I had, and would have submitted. What would it have gotten?

Here's another I took on the same night, but wouldn't have submitted, because it's a flower:

Comments on both are welcome!

they're both great... although the second one may have had trouble, because I think the challenge said 'no flowers'.

I really like the top one.. probably 6 or 7 from me. The composition is nice. I think another good one might be that same shot, done with a longer shutter speed (if possible), for a stronger mist effect on the water surface. (maybe you already did it as long as possible... looks like the daytime). If not, put that ISO all the way down and the aperture all the way up, and see how long an exposure you will be allowed.

Sorry to put a spoiler in the works, chaps, but I don't think that the first photo is all that great.

Compositionally, I find the leaf distracting. and I think that the entire top 1/4 doesn't add anything to the shot. The green on the left-hand side needs to be cropped out. The colour of the left-hand tree is very similar to that of the water, rather taking away the impact of the waterfall. I think that the shutter speed was a little too long because rather than see nice bubbling water at the bottom of the falls, all we get is indistinct foam. A longer exposure would achieve a lovely glowing foaming effect. At present, in the middle, we don't get much.

I'm sorry for being blunt.

The waterfall looks interesting as a selective desaturation pic. I fooled around with it here(I didn't do the greatest job though).
The flower pic is nice by the way.

I think the lightning on this is not very good the leaf is too bright I played around with some levels and colors
And I think the flower picture could use more detail in the yeollow leafs (or whatever its called) And a little levels adjustments and mabey crop a little from the bottom

heida: I'd be interested to know exactly what you did here. I don't have imaging software that is very good (what I have is just what came with my computer, I think), but I assume that Photoshop Elements could do all of what you did, right? Or maybe paintshop pro, or one of the other economical options?

Well I only use photoshop so I dont know much about the other softwares But In the first picture I did a couple of adjustment layers; One with levels, one with color balence (put more red, magnenta and yellow in it to look warmer) and one with curves. And in the flower picture I have 2 adjustment layers one with color balence (I put some more red, magnenta and blue in it) and one with levels And the I used the burn tool to burn the yellow leafs a little (But thats illegal in challenges you know) And the I used some unsharp mask to sharpen it a bit.
Thats it. And put a little border around it I think it looks nicer like that

The first photo of the waterfall seems to show more detail in the shadows?

The second photo seems to show more decay on the leaf hanging over the water?

Which photo is the most accurate?
