I'm looking for one of those camera packs that is a backpack but just has the one arm strap? Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Lowepro do a model that has a single sling back strap instead of a standard backpack:

Several other manufacturers do too, I'm sure. I know Tamrac and Crumpler make some.

ty, that's exactly what I am looking for. Hubby got me a camera bag for Christmas, but I can't carry it with me when I'm hiking. It's a shoulder bag and it's just not good for that. I end up having to carry my camera around my neck which is kind of a pain and not comfortable to say the least. And it's getting to be hiking season so I really need something more comfortable.

If you're looking for a small pack to take camping - try the Tamrac Velocity 7. I have one and I love it for toting my D70 with kit lens, 70-300 lense and 50 mm lens. Not big enough for much more than that but it carries very nicely and the camera and lenses can be reached without taking off your back. It's a good mobile pack. -J

Try also the Kata product range as well - they look good and are very comfortable.

Their new backback is excellent but... that are from Isreal and are likely to be quite expensive in the US.

I need something that I can fit 3 lenses in. I'm looking at one of the Lowepros right now. Doesn't seem to be anywhere around here so I'll have to order it online. I only have 2 lenses at the moment but hopefully by next month I will have 3.

Hi,

The Lowepro 'Slingshot' sling bag seems a bit small for hiking. I haven't tried it but I just bought a Lowepro "Orion AW'. It is a backpack as well as a beltpack. The daypack can be separated from the beltpack section. It seems a bit bigger and more veratile than the 'Slingshot'.

Okay... I just clicked on the URL, took one look at the bag and ordered it on impulse.

Ur a good salesman Kavey...

LOL!

Did I make a good choice? Anybody else have one like that? I ordered the 200AW one...

Blimey!

OK now go and buy my prints! Linky below - my membership expires today - I thought it was yesterday according to the little warning note on my home page the last few days but it's midnight tonight!

I have several lowepros but all regular two-strap backpacks as I find those better for my back - I need to distribute weight evenly because of back problems. I'm happy with all mine.

(The reason I have several is that I have two regular ones of different sizes, one fully waterproof one that was bought for a trip to the Antarctic and a new one I just got which includes space for my laptop).

LOL!!

No - I cant be swayed any more... my wallet cant take it!

:)

Damn, ive never bought something (based on a small picture off a website with no knowledge thereof) so quickly in my life before.

I hate to admit it, but I kind of like it...

*grin*

Great thread. The Velocity 9 went immediately on my wish-list.

I will look for a weatherproof outer for it too as we do get torrential rains and typhoons where I live. I can't imagine getting caught out in the rain that often, but I like the idea... I HAVE been caught in the rain with my backpack and I had a 4 inch puddle of water in the bottom.

That was after just a minute and a half to get to shelter too.

I personally like the top-loading system with the cover that reaches down the sides. I have a Lowepro bag for my S2 IS and I really like it for that.

Edit: I like the idea of the belt-straps on the Lowepro, but these are pretty easy to add, so I think that I would just add them on afterwards as needed. Any tailor can do it. If they can't, a shoe repairing place should be able to handle it. As for the weatherproofing, just go to a place that sells decent quality windbreakers and modify a large one with the material from the back. Or just keep it in the pack and wrap it around as needed.

I do a lot of biking, and I like having the option to keep a pack on the front or back.

It says on the one I just ordered, there's a "all weather cover" and looking at the picture I would assume you pull it over the bag?

Is this what you are talking about?

You guys should look into pelican cases.

If you want to save a few bucks on a bag that's just as good as a comparable Tamrac or Lowepro, you might want to check this out. I bought one a few weeks ago and can't say one bad thing about it. Right now it's holding 4 lenses, camera, shoe flash, 15 filters, charger, card reader and the usual odds and ends.

I've never had a sling bag, but I love LowePro gear in general. Definately a good decision. See if B&H has it. I got my MicroTrekker from them for a good price and it arrived very quickly. It's often hard to beat their selection, though sometimes they aren't the cheapest.

I have the lowepro 100. I like it a lot! Great for hikes and air travel. The swing to the front comes in real handy, and its a great place to hold everything when you are changing lenses. It is deceiving how much it will hold. It holds everything I need.

I looked into a variety of pelican cases for the Antarctica trip but they just didn't win on portability. Whilst they are great for transporting gear during the journey they aren't very practical out and about on a shoot.

Backpacks and slingshot bags allow you to carry your equipment hands free which is a huge advantage over pelicans for day to day use.

Not what you are looking for, but a very handy little system:

I can understand what you are saying. I just want something large enough to protect just the camera but small enough to fit in a backpack. Thus the best of both worlds. :) No more worries about accidently sitting on your pack. or dropping it in a river.

B&H doesn't have it but I may just go for a regular backpack since their prices are good. I think the Ritz Camera in town has a couple of their backpacks. There's a local camera shop too so I think I'll check them out.

Tamarac Velocity - 7 or 9 , both are the sling style. I have the 9 and love it.
